Glutamate dehydrogenase project- Main duties:
-E. coli bacterial culture (overnight starters and refreshers), streak and spread-plate
methods, freezing glycerol and antibiotic stocks
-Making E. coli competent, transformation of mouse plasmid DNA
-Autoclaving agar and broth, pouring agar plates and autoclaving micropipette tips

Presented project at National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) Apr 2017,
University of Memphis, TN.
Screening scar-collagen inhibitors for aid in wound healing- Project synopsis:
-Possible scar-collagen antagonists were identified from scientific literature
-Scarring was stimulated by adding transforming growth factor (TGF-β1) to normal dermal
fibroblasts
-Effects of test compounds were screened in vitro by measuring amount of collagen
produced at the protein level in a fluorescent microplate assay and visualized by confocal
microscopy
PUBLICATION
Primary Research collected into peer reviewed scientific paper titled, “Determination of
anti-fibrotic effects of possible scar-collagen antagonists on TGF-β treated dermal
fibroblasts”. Paper published in 2017 NCUR Journal Proceedings.
HONORS/AWARDS
Trustee Scholarship Recipient and Member of the Dominican Scholar of the World Honors
Program. 2014-2018
Requirements: Maintain 3.5 GPA or above for all semesters and complete a senior thesis
-Program Highlight: Sustainable living trip to a permaculture farm in Costa Rica

Award given by the Dominican University English department for having the best final paper
of all Advanced Writing and Research sections that term. Paper titled “The Case Against
Performance-Enhancing Drugs in Sports.
