Masculinity's Lost Rituals

This document discusses the lack of modern rituals of passage from boyhood to manhood in Western society. It argues that this has created a crisis in masculinity. Specifically: - Ritual initiations were historically important but have been discarded, leaving boys without guidance in developing into men. - Modern pseudo-initiations like the military instead promote abusive and malformed versions of masculinity. - Traditional rituals involved a symbolic death of boyhood under the guidance of elders, allowing boys to develop a calm, compassionate masculine identity. - Without proper initiation, men struggle with an immature "boy psychology" rather than integrating their full masculine potential.

Intro

Ritual initiation, an important part of cultures historically, has been discarded

in modern western society, due in part to religios reformation discrediting rites
and ritual.

Feminism incorrectly blames masculinity on the abuse of the female archetype, and
of women in society, calling it patriarchy, and stating that love and tenderness
(Eros) are exclusively feminine.

Patriarchy is an expression of boy psychology. It s tyrranical and oscillates

between abuse and weakness. It creates weak men who stifle the development of boys
and girls, and who hate to see greatness and fullness.

Modern psychology assumes young men need to get in touch with their feminine side,
but in truth, they were never in touch with their masculine side, and have instead
been overwhelmed by the feminine.

The lack of modern rites of passage, the stymying of development from patriarchy,
and the feminist and psychological critique of what little masculinity remained has
created this crisis.

Part 1 From Boy to Man Psychology

1. Crisis in the Masculine Ritual Process

A person is made of many personalities, and if they are fragmented, or have never
come together, they lead different lives, keeping a person from collecting
themself.

One interpretation of the dynamic of life is to move from a higher level of

experience or consciousness, to a lower or deeper one. From a diffuse identity to a
collected or structured one.

Modernity has pseudo-initiations that create abusive malformed versions of

masculinity. Military, gangs, prison, etc., creating men with boy psychology,
struggling for dominance of others. Boys lead and regulated by other boys.

A key difference is ritual Death. Symbolic, psychologic, or spiritual. What remains

of the boy psychology after is now subordinate to a higher power center. Calm,
compassionate, clear, and generative.

The other key difference is the lack of a ritual process, which usually contains a
hallowed ritual space, and a leader or elder, wise old man/woman, whom the initiate
trusts completely to deliver them safely intact and enhanced to the other side of
the ritual process.

In ritual spaces, initiates are brought to face pain and death. Death of their
boyhood, the pain of life, and submission to elders and cultural myth and society.
Then gifted with the wisdom of men.
This wisdom is held by the elder, who guards the myth, and lives a vision of
masculinity.

2. Masculine Potentials

Jung theorized that the psyche of all humans is hard-wired at the collective
unconscious level, and, because of this, previous lack of initiator ritual can be
corrected.

This inner blueprint is accessed voluntarily, given the person has recieved
adequate parenting. Encounters with weak or destructive archetypes manifest in the
person as psychological problems.

Cultures have shared myth due to this archetypal blueprint, and men and women have
subpersonae, animus and anima, and access them by interrelation.
