ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
First and foremost, I thank God, the Almighty who gave me the inner strength,
resource and ability to complete the work successfully without any complications.
I am grateful to our Principal, Dr. Saji C. B, for his valuable advices. I am also
thankful to Prof. K. R. Rajan, Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, for
his valuable advice and motivation.
I whole heartedly thank my seminar guide Ass.Prof. Lijush Paul, Dept. of Mechanical
Engineering for his valuable advice and support.
I convey my sincere thanks to all other faculties in the department for their
support and encouragement. I thank all my friends who have helped me during the
work with their Inspiration and cooperation. I truly admire my parents for their constant
encouragement and enduring support, which was inevitable for the support of this
venture. Once again I convey my gratitude to all those people who directly or indirectly
influenced my work.

PERFORMANCE CHARACTERISTICS ANALYSIS OF AIRCRAFT WINLETS Page I
ABSTRACT
One of the most important, yet simple innovations in aviation engineering has
been the invention and implementation of the winglet on the airplane wingtip.
The concept of winglets has been taken from the wing tip of bird. A simple
mechanical piece, the winglet reduces drag caused by swirling vortices of air
around the tips of wings to increase the lift to drag ratio, efficiency, range, and
payload.
In this seminar I will be covering the topics like what winglets are, different types
of winglets, analysis of reducing the induced drag using winglet at the wingtip,
their implementation and the benefits.
