USING THE ASSIGNMENT ACTIVITY
Teachers are able to create assignments in Moodle using the assignment activity module. In response to

the required assignment students can submit digital content such as Word documents, PDF files as well
as audio and video clips. Work can be submitted as either a group or as an individual.
In addition to uploading files the assignment can be set up for students to type text into a text editor

generating an online submission. Assignment module can also be used for offline assignments to
facilitate the grading process.
Teachers can grade submissions, add comments/feedback, as well as attach revised or corrected
documents. Assignments can also be graded using a rubric or a marking guide. All final grades are
recorded in the grade book. This document focuses on the main assignment settings.
TO CREATE AN ASSIGNMENT
click Turn editing on button
Editing can be turned on
click Add an activity or resource via the Administration
under Activities select Assignment block as well
click Add
ASSIGNMENT SETTINGS
The Assignment name field is required.
Additional files (answer templates or sample answers) can be added to the assignment. Download links
for the files will then be displayed on the assignment page under the description.
In the Availability section one can enable:
Allow submissions from - date from which submissions can begin. If
disabled, students will be able to start submitting assignments right
away
Due date - This is when the assignment is due. Submissions will still be
allowed after this date but any assignments submitted after this date are
marked as late.
Cut-off date - If set, the assignment will not accept submissions after this
date without an extension It is highly recommended

Assignment activity allows 3 types of feedback: comments, files, or an offline grading worksheet (If
enabled, the teacher will be able to download and upload a worksheet with student grades when
marking the assignments).
