The following Codes were referred to while designing the Mechanical systems for the
building.

NBC – National Building Code - 2005 as per Indian Stds

1.2 Applicable Standards


The following standards were followed for the plumbing system design and engineering
calculation requirements.

1.3 PLUMBING SYSTEMS REQUIREMENTS


1.3.1 Basic Plumbing Supply Fixtures like Water Closets, Urinals, Lavotaries for daily Hygene &
sanitation needs of Bank Staff & Visitors.
1.3.2 Showers for Recreational Activity of Banking VIP/ Guest Staffs.
1.3.3 Rain Water Harvesting techniques for Water Conservation.
1.3.4 SewageTreatment Plant for Water Reuse in landscape Irrigation.
1.3.5 Borewell as a source of Potable Water demand.

1.4 Buildings Function Requirements


This DCC bank in Islampur – Maharashtra, will be provided with adequate Plumbing systems in
accordance with the requirements of the Indian NBC[national Building Codes], . Building usage will be
for Office related activities where in People gathered to work inside this BANK for 8 hrs/day
occupancy.Requirements consisting potable cold water system for Lavotaries usage & WC ,Urinals &
Shower bath as per GRIHA requirements. Storage Tank both Underground & Overhead Tank,sanitary
drainage and vents system along with Septic Tank & Chambers, condensate and storm drainage
system for Roof as per Arch Roof Plans.

Roof may have addional Hose Bib # 2 Nos on Each Wing Floor to be used for any general
Application.Provision for Solar Panels of tube type/Plate type must be assigned by Architect &
orientation as per any Solar Panel Dealor/ Consultant.

Provision for 1 Nos Overhead Tank will be provided on Roof. Tank Sizing of these tanks
will be in accordance with the Water Demand Calculation. These tank will be supported on any rigid
structure or pedestal & all these load will be shared with the Structural Engineer.
All Storm Water Calculation will be in accordance with Rainfall Data of Islampur/Sangli
City & all FRD location after Storm Water Calculation will be as per Civil Engineer approvals. All storm
Water line sizing will be as per NBC- 2005 Codes & any governing Stds. However Stormwater in any
case should not be Drained into Septic to avoid Overflow but a separate Line shall be provided to
collect it in Cistern Tank. Collected storm water can further be treated & used in Irrigation or Hardscape
Maintainance to quality for Water Conservation Points in GRIHA Ratings.
All Iandscape irrigation shall be done using DRIP IRRIGATION techniques to save more
water. In any scenario, there shall be no provision for any type of Lawn Sprinklers.

1.5 Design of Plumbing System Approach.

The design of both drainage and water supply system will be in accordance with 2005
Edition National Building Code, 2007 Edition ASHRAE Application Handbook for hot water demand.

1.6 OVERALL SYSTEMS REQUIREMENTS

 Downfeed Plumbing System will be used to provide both Coldwater Supply to various
bldg facility fixture units. Listed below are few Plumbing system requirement.
o LAV’s.
o WC
o Urinals.
o Shower Head.
o Electric Water Heaters.
o Water Hammer Arrestors.
o CPVC/UPVC Pipe for Supply Water System.
o UPVC Pipe for all Drainage & Storm Water System.
o PVC PIPE for all Venting System
o GI Pipe for all underground Piping.
o Water Meters
o Hose Bib in Basement Parking Zone & on Roof.
o Drip Irrigation for Landscape Maintainance.
o Sewage Treatment Plant for Water reuse.
o Water Supply transfer pumps.
o Sewage Submerssible Pumps if applicable at site.

1.7 FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS OF PLUMBING SYSTEM.

 The building will be provided with adequate drainage and vent system for sanitary waste as well
as storm water from the roof and adequate cold
 Drainage and water supply system will be connected at the available site drainage through
various Ducts.
 Supply pumps will be provided to potable system demands for all the buildings. These Pumps
will be installed at basement in dedicated space to supply the water from Ground Level Water
Tank to Overhead Water Tank.
 All Overhead Tanks will be installed with Float valve to control the Water Level & this will be
interlock with Supply Pump to automatically Switch On/Off the Pump & to avoid Overflow of
water. However this mechanism will be discussed only after approval from Owner/Architrect.
 P.R.V will be provided if pressure at connection point with the water supply system network at
site exceeds 80 PSI.
 All Plumbing material like Elbows, Connectors, Joints, Valves, Water hammer arrestors etc will
be finalized only after through design phase.
 A potable water line service connections from municipal which is connected to the Ground Level
Water Tank & to Supply pumps will be provided with water meter in which the location is shown
on Civil water supply system network drawing.
 Drainage system will be Gravity Type & shall be connected to #1 nos Septic Tank at the
basement.All the Effluent from these Tanks will be then connected to Municiple Sewer System
or to Drainfield at site to be decided cy Civil Engg Personnel. However wheter a Submersible
Pump for Effluent Pumping is requird at site can be discussed further during design phase.
 Pipes material will be in uPVC, Sched. 40 for sanitary drainage / vent and storm drainage
system.
 Pipes material will be in uPVC, Schedule 40, cPVC, Schedule 40 for cold & hot water supply
systems respectively. Copper Piping with insulation for Hot water Supply can be discussed
during design phase.

1.8 GRIHA REQUIREMENT IN PLUMBING SYSTEM.

In anticipation to aim Maximum points in Water Conservation, below are mandatory requirement in
designing & implementing Plumbing services.

1. 14.1.3: Reduce water demand through selection of low-flow fixtures by 70% below the GRIHA
base case – 4 points.
2. 15.1.3: Reduce landscape water demand by at least 50% from the GRIHA base case –
4 points.
3. 16.1.2: The STP installed on site meets the CPCB norms – 2 points.

4. 17.1.1: Demonstrate that the project meets the on-site water reuse requirements (through on-site
recycle and reuse of waste water and use of on-site harvested rainwater) in its annual water
requirements for domestic use, buildings, landscape and utilities as mentioned below:

3. Cold Water & Hot Water Supply Pipe Sizing.
4. Discharge Drainage & Venting Pipe Sizing.
5. Potable Supply water Pump Sizing with Float Valve Selection.
6. Hydraulic Calculation for Supply System .
7. Plumbing Equipment Sizing Calculations.
8. Sanitary Waste Discharge Load Calculations.
9. Storm Drainage Systems Calculations.

In Addition as discussed above

 Fixture units (value) method will be used in design calculations on both potable water
supply and sanitary drainage systems.

 All water closets either with flush valve or flush tank will be provided with perennial hose
spray.
