The Fine Print
Read the definitions properly. Know what the various words like family, accident burglary etc mean in the insurance context.
Understand what you are covered for. Apart from the scope of coverage also go through the conditions specified for the
coverage. In fact, ‘Terms and Conditions’ is one of the most important sections of the policy wording.
Give equal importance to Exclusions as to Coverage.
Usually, certain Special Conditions are allowed in the travel policies. Find out if your policy offers any and what are they.
All travel insurance policies carry a ‘Deductible’, usually of $100. Deductible is the amount you need to pay from your own
pocket. The insurer would pay any amount more than that.
Know about the documents you need to submit in case of claims. There are different documents required for different kinds of
claims. E.g. documents required for a baggage loss would differ from documents required for burglary.
Read the fine print carefully. Understand what you are covered for and what not.
Also be aware of the ‘conditions’ specified for filing of claims.
Always carry your policy wording along with the policy itself. It is as important. As far as possible, have them online so that you
can access them anytime, anywhere!
Tips for buying a travel insurance policy
Take the policy only for the number of days of your trip. Travel insurance is usually charged on a slab basis. But ICICI Lombard
offers you the pay per day facility. So you pay exactly for the number of days you have been away and not more.
Don't just compare the prices of travel insurance products, compare also the benefits of the cover, the exclusions on the cover
and other product features.
At the time of taking a policy, remember to take the list of region specific toll free contact numbers.
While buying a travel policy, look beyond premiums. Give importance to the claims procedure and the cashless hospital network
available. Do get a list of the network hospitals before deciding on your policy.
Also check out for other covers (like terrorism, hijack distress allowance etc) available apart from the loss/ damage of baggage/
passport cover, personal liability cover and medical and personal accident cover.
Always read the policy wordings carefully. Be clear on what you are covered for and what not. Clear out any confusion you
might have before buying your policy.
Buy policy online. It enables you to access your policy anytime, anywhere and all the details are available in one click.
Buying duplicate coverage does not double your benefit. It wastes money and creates confusion that could actually delay
payments.
Understand the different policies for different travelers. ICICI Lombard offers different plans – Individual Overseas Insurance,
Student Insurance
Claim Procedure
The claim documents required would depend on the nature of claim lodged – health, burglary, baggage loss/delay, passport loss
etc. However the basic standard procedure is as follows-
Call the insurer’s help line number.
Incase of health cashless claim, go to the nearest cashless hospital.
The insurers representative would settle the claim directly with the hospital.
Incase of reimburse health claim. You will have to pay the hospital bill and get it reimbursed by your insurer.
In case of non-medical claims, you will have to furnish the requisite proof to get compensation.
Fill in the claim form and submit it with other documents required.
