Sociology is the study of relationships between economic, religious, family, legal, and political phenomena. The science of social communication is the process of transmitting thoughts and feelings from a communicator to communicants. The relationship between sociology and social communication science is interdependent; social life and communication cannot be separated from each other. They continuously influence each other and develop together, according to experts who note that communication is essential to human life and the formation of society.

The Relationship Between Sociology and the Science of Social Communication

Science of Social Communication

According to Onong Uchyana effendy said that communication is the process of


delivering thoughts, or feelings by someone (communicator) to other people
(communicants). can be ideas, information, opinions, and others that arise from his mind.
Feelings can be beliefs, certainties, doubts, worries, anger, courage, excitement, etc. that
arise from the bottom of the heart (Uchyana, 2002: 11)

SOCIOLOGY SCIENCE

Sociology is the study of the relationships and reciprocal influences between various
kinds of economic phenomena with religion, families with legal morals with economics, the
movement of society with politics etc.

So the relationship between sociology and the science of communication is


continuous or interdependent, between the social life of the community and the
communication process that cannot be separated from one another. The process of sociology
in life continues, as does communication. A process that together will continue to develop, as
does sociology.

Agreed with Dr. Everett Kleinjan from East west Center Hawaii, who said that
communication was an eternal part of human life as well as breathing. As long as humans
want to live, they need to communicate.

Professor Wilbur Schramm said that communication and society are two twin words
that cannot be separated from one another. the conclusion without communication is that it is
impossible for the community to form, on the contrary without society, humans cannot
develop communication (Schramm: 1982)
Hubungan atau Keterkaitan Ilmu Sosiologi dan Ilmu Komunikasi Sosial

ILMU KOMUNIKASI

Menurut Onong Uchyana Effendy mengatakan bahwa komunikasi adalah proses


penyampaian pikiran , atau perasaan oleh seseorang (komunikator) kepada orang lain
(komunikan). bisa merupakan gagasan , informasi , opini , dan lain-lain yang muncul dari
benaknya . Perasaan bisa berupa keyakinan , kepastian , keraguan , kekhawatiran ,
kemarahan , keberanian , kegairahan , dan sebagainya yang timbul dari lubuk hati.
(Uchyana, 2002:11)

ILMU SOSIOLOGI

Ilmu sosiologi adalah ilmu yang mempelajari hubungan dan pengaruh timbal balik
antara aneka macam gejala ekonomi dengan agama , keluarga dengan moral hukum dengan
ekonomi , gerak masyarakat dengan politik dsb .

Jadi Hubungan antara sosiologi dengan ilmu komunikasi adalah saling


berkesinambungan atau saling bergantung , antara kehidupan sosial masyarakat dengan
proses komunikasi yang tidak bisa lepas satu sama lain. Proses sosiologi dalam kehidupan
terus berjalan , begitu juga dengan komunikasi . Suatu proses yang sama-sama akan terus
berkembang , seperti halnya sosiologi .

Sependapat dengan Dr Everett Kleinjan dari East west Center Hawaii , yang
mengatakan bahwa komunikasi sudah merupakan bagian kekal dari kehidupan manusia
seperti halnya bernafas . Sepanjang manusia ingin hidup , ia perlu berkomunikasi .

Professor wilbur Schramm menyebutkan bahwa komunikasi dan masyarakat adalah


dua kata kembar yang tidak dapat di pisahkan satu sama lain . kesimpulannya tanpa
komunikasi tidak mungkin masyarakat terbentuk , sebaliknya tanpa masyarakat maka
manusia tidak mungkin dapat mengembangkan komunikasi. (Schramm : 1982)
