Vibration Diagnosis of Valve Seat Machine

Vibration measurements were taken on the inlet and exhaust spindle units of a valve seat generating machine. High vibration levels were found at various measurement points on both spindles, especially at higher frequencies. Analysis of the data showed remarkable vibrations in all frequency bands for both spindles. It was determined that the front and rear bearings of both the inlet and exhaust spindles were deteriorating based on the presence of side bands around the rotational frequency. The measured vibration spectrum matched the fault frequency of the bearings, indicating they were deteriorating. It was recommended to replace the bearings of both spindles.

Con cl u s ive R em ar ks :

• Fr om the meas ur ement & Analys is it was evident that the vibr ation levels at bear ing
fault (high fr equency 4 th band) wer e ver y high for both ex haus t & inlet s pindles .
• I t was als o evident fr om the meas ur ement on the s pindle that ther e wer e r emar kable
vibr ations in all bands for both inlet & ex haus t s pindles and als o s ide bands with a
width of r otational fr equency, which indicates bear ing deter ior ation in both s pindles .
• Fr om the s pectr um analys is it was s us pected that the fr ont & r ear end bear ings in both
inlet & ex haus t s pindles wer e under deter ior ation.
• S pindle bear ing no. being RHP 7018, bear ing fault fr equencies wer e calculated and
wer e cor r elated with available data. I t was s een that bear ing fault fr equency B PFI 488
Hz was matching with the meas ur ed s pectr um (Refer Fig- 1) als o vibr ation level for that
par ticular fr equency was mor e with har monics & s ide bands and concluded as “B ear ing
is under deter ior ation”
• I t was s ugges ted to r eplace the bear ings of both the s pindles
