Sequential Compression Device

Sequential compression devices (SCDs) are inflatable sleeves that fit around the legs and are attached to a pump. SCDs promote blood flow in the deep veins of the legs to reduce the risk of deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. The sleeves inflate and deflate in sequence from the feet to the thighs to enhance venous return. SCDs are used as an adjunctive measure in patients receiving anticoagulant therapy or with reduced mobility to prevent postoperative complications like thrombophlebitis. Proper application and monitoring of SCDs helps maintain safety and reduces the risk of blood clots.
