Identifying Alliteration 
Alliteration is the repetition of first consonant sounds.  
The sentence “The detective determined which doctor 
committed the crime” contains alliteration because d   
and a hard c are repeated in the sentence. 
 
Today, you will be the detective.  You will determine  
which first consonant sounds are the ones that make a sentence have alliteration. 
 
Directions: Identify which first consonant sounds are repeated in the sentence by writing the 
letter in the space provided, then highlight the words that contain those first consonant 
sounds. 
 
Example: The mysterious mansion looked mighty creepy in the moonlight. Sound? M   
 
 
1. Someone colored the closet door with Crayola crayons.      Sound? ______ 
 
2. The painter from Pennsylvania was out of town.       Sound? ______ 
 
3. Why would someone walk all the way over there?       Sound? _______ 
 
4. I wonder what they’re up to.            Sound? _______ 
 
5. Besides, there must be a better reason.        Sound? _______
