Political Organization of Space Explained

Political geography is the study of the political organization of the world. A key concept is the modern state, which is a politically organized territory with defined boundaries, a permanent population, and a government. To be recognized as a state, an entity must be recognized by other states. The modern idea of the state originated in Europe and spread through processes like mercantilism and colonialism. A nation is a culturally defined group of people who share a common identity, history and political goals related to a territory. Nation-states are politically organized areas where the boundaries of the nation and state coincide.
