ASSIGNMENT 2-GUIDELINES
ASSIGNMENT REQUIREMENTS
Complete a two-part portfolio:
Part 1: Design a specific lesson for an English for Academic Purposes (EAP) course in a pre-university
programme. Remember to include the teachers’ guide and lesson plan for your lesson.
Part 2: Design a lesson which follows the tenets of Content Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) method
to teach a group of students aged 15 to 18. Remember to include the teachers’ guide and lesson plan for
your lesson.
ASSESSING CRITERIA
The criteria are as follows:

a Organisation and Structure
This category requires that all the sections in your assignment are coherent, and that they fit together in
a logical way. The reader should be guided through with your assignment and be made clearly aware of
its overall structure. The overall aim and layout of your assignment should be very clear.
b Relevance and content
The content of the wassignment should be focused on the topic or question set for the particular piece
of coursework and relevant to it at all times. You should demonstrate your understanding of the
relevant theories and principles in your writing/ assignment, and support what you say with relevant
examples drawn from your reading or experience.
c Style and references
You are expected to write in an academic manner, obeying rules about referencing, bibliographies and
avoiding plagiarism. You must always acknowledge the source of other people’s ideas. However, your
writing/ assignment involving designing lessons and therefore no more than 20% of your contents is
taken from the internet or other references. Layout and design of your lessons should also be taken into
account in this section.
d Analysis and creativity

Demonstrate your ability to analyse your self-created lessons and assess their strengths and
weaknesses. Make sure you critically discuss your materials and relate the discussion to the relevant
justifications and interpretations.
