Optimizing MIG Welding with Taguchi Method

The document discusses an experiment using Taguchi methodology to determine optimal welding conditions for depositing metal on ASTMA36 steel using MIG welding. An L9 orthogonal array was used to study the relationship between deposition rate and three controllable welding parameters: voltage, wire feed rate, and gas flow rate. The experiment varied these control factors and found they mainly affected the output of weld metal deposition rate.

CHAPTER 6

CONCLUSION
The experimentation uses Taguchi methodology to obtain optimum welding
condition for metal deposition of ASTMA36 in MIG welding operation. The
initial stage of experimentation consists of evaluating the effect of control
factors, which mainly affect the output parameter.

The experimentation was carried out by varying control factors, which results
the control factors such as gas flow rate (m/min) Voltage(V) Gas flow
rate(lit/min) mainly affect the output parameter Weld Metal Deposition Rate.

An L9 orthogonal Array was selected to study the relationships between the

deposition rate, with the three controllable input welding parameters such as
voltage, wire feed rate and gas flow rate.
