A BRIEF HISTORY
Cannabis cultivation played a huge role in the development
of societies, including the United States, where cannabis
appeared on the $10 bill as late as 1900. In the early 1600’s,
King James 1, decreed the American Colonies should increase
hemp farming to do their part in supporting England.
Jamestown landowners were asked to grow and export 100
hemp plants to support the cause.1
CANNABIS DATES BACK
The 1st descriptions of the medical properties of cannabis show up
in the Ancient Chinese herbal text: Pen-ts’ao 2, ca. 1-2 century AD;
becoming the standard text on medical drugs for hundreds of years.

In America, cannabis appeared on the medical scene after William
O’Shaughnessy introduced it’s use to the West in 1839. Tinctures
were found in pharmacies until the early 1900’s when prohibition
started to gain traction.
