Overnight Trip Proposal
Kylee McPhedrain
Trip Descriptions:
Taking the grade 11 Co-op class (PE 11 and Biology 12) on a 2 day overnight trip to
Garibaldi Lake. We will arrive there early Thursday morning and hike up as a class to Garibaldi
Lake where we will be camping at the designated camping areas. The students will be sleeping in
tents and there is a food shelter and pit toilets available. Friday morning we will be doing a hike
as a class around Taylor meadow before packing up and coming back down. On the trip the
class has been splint into 5 groups of 5. In these groups they will prepare meals together and
present a biology mini lesson and team building activity to the class.
Purpose:
The purpose of the trip is to give the students a new experience where they get to learn in
an outdoor environment. They will come to understand by experience, alternative ways of being
active. They will also learn outdoor etiquette; bear safety, drinking water, how to start a fire, use
a camp stove, leave no trace camping and how to follow trails. Not only will they learn outdoor
skills and the importance of an active lifestyle but will also have the opportunity the learn some
of biology 12's curriculum and develop their leadership skills. They will have on lecture on the
heart and respiration system and each group will have a specific section of this unit to teach in a
15-20 lesson with the class. Additionally, the 5 groups will also prepare a 15min teambuilding
exercise to do as a class. A combination of all these things will give students the opportunity to
work on their presentation skills, teamwork skills, and understanding the topics discussed in a
fun and unique manner. Lastly, this trip will give them an opportunity to better understand
themselves, their social skills and how they face challenges.
