Adventure Club
The first Adventure Club meeting will be on Tuesday, September 18th, in Mrs.
Giordani's room (room 206). There will be ICE CREAM. All students interested in
Adventure Cub are invited to attend and bring ideas for trips this year! See Mrs.
Giordani, Ms. Miller or Mrs. Smith with any questions.
The first Adventure Club trip will be KAYAKING at Nantasket Kayak next Wednesday
September 19. Permission slips can be found on the Adventure Club Classroom
site. Permission slips and money must be handed DIRECTLY to Ms. Miller, Mrs.
Giordani or Mrs. Smith to reserve a spot!
PAW
The Poets, Artists, and Writers club, also known as PAW, will begin on Monday,
September 24th. All HMS students who enjoy writing poetry or short stories,
drawing or sketching, or performing and presenting their work are welcome.
Meetings are held after school on Mondays in room 215 with Ms. Cassidy.
Intramurals
Intramurals have begun! See the weekly schedule for information. 6th grade soccer
and note dates/teams will always change depending upon wins/losses.

A Night of Magic!
6th Grade Families, save the date! On Thursday October 4th from 6-8pm

Sign Up for the Library Media Center Afterschool
Sign up to study after school in the LMC. Just sign up before homeroom or during
lunch. This is available on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Hope to see you

Attention Parents! Keyboarding Class Announcement
Each year, HMS offers interested students an after school keyboarding class. We
will begin this class again in the middle of September. With the introduction of
Google ChromeBooks, the ability to properly keyboard with accuracy and eventually
speed has become extremely important. We can accommodate 16 students per 6-
week session and will run 8 sessions throughout the year. The classes fill quickly,
so we will use a "first email, first serve" procedure.
The dates will be:
Monday Session - 9/17, 9/24, 10/1, (10/8 is a holiday), 10/15, 10/22, 10/29
Tuesday Session - 9/18, 9/25, 10/2, 10/9, 10/16, 10/23

What is a Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC)?
Since 1986, Massachusetts special education law (Chapter 71B of the Mass.
General Laws) requires all public school districts to maintain a Special Education
Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC). The SEPAC is comprised of parents and
guardians of children who receive special education services from Hingham Public
Schools (HPS). All parents/guardians of children receiving special education
services through HPS are eligible voting members of the Hingham SEPAC.
SEPAC Monthly Business Meetings will be held the 2nd Wednesday of the month
at the Hingham Public Library. Hope to see you there!

SNAP: Join team SNAP on September 22 for a 5K, 25-mile bike ride or 50-mile bike
ride! We are partnering with the McCourt foundation, which supports people with
neurological disorders. 80% of the dollars we raise will go to support SNAP

South Shore Special Needs Athletic Partnership (SNAP)
Announces Fall Program
SNAP is pleased to announce its Fall 2018 lineup of recreational and athletic
programs for students ages 4 - 22 who receive special education services. Our Fall
programs will include: crew, learn-to-skate/learn-to-play hockey, soccer, and
programs will include: crew, learn-to-skate/learn-to-play hockey, soccer, and

Hingham Mothers Club Spring Shopping Fundraiser
Please join us on Thursday May 4th at the Hingham Community Center from 6:30-
9:00 for the 3rd annual Spring Shopping Fundraiser. We are pleased to have 16
local venders participating in this special event, all of whom will donate a portion of
their sales to the center. There will also be food, wine and raffles, all donated by
local businesses and individuals. This shopping night will directly support the efforts
of the HCC to install an elevator lift to serve and ensure the safety of all individuals
and families who gather in our community center. This improvement supports the
mission of the Hingham Community Center "To enrich the South Shore by sharing

South Shore Conservatory Youth Orchestra Auditions
South Shore Conservatory (SSC) announces September audition dates for school-
South Shore Conservatory (SSC) announces September audition dates for school-
aged musicians interested in being part of the 2018/19 season of South Shore
Conservatory Youth Orchestra (SSCYO).Rehearsals take place at the Marshfield
High School Music Suite on Wednesday evenings from 6 to 8 pm. Both Symphony
and Repertory ensembles have openings for the upcoming season.
SSCYO auditions will be held Wednesday, September 12, from 6 to 8 pm, at SSC's
Ellison Center for the Arts at 64 St. George Street in Duxbury, and Wednesday,
September 19, 6 to 8 pm at South Shore Conservatory's Hingham campus at One
Conservatory Drive. Rehearsals start September 26.
Instrumentalists interested in auditioning for SSCYO may arrange an audition time

South Shore Conservatory Youth Chorus Open Rehearsal
South Shore Conservatory (SSC) invites singers in grades three through six who are
interested in participating in the 2018/19 season of SSC Youth Chorus to an open
rehearsal/pizza party on Monday, September 10, 5 to 6 pm at SSC's Ellison Center
for the Arts, 64 St. George Street in Duxbury.
The mission of SSC Youth Chorus is to bring students together to sing and learn in a
supportive environment and foster a sense of community and joy through music.
Chorus rehearsals are Monday afternoons, 5 to 6 pm, and the group performs three
times during the year.
SSC Youth Chorus Conductor Peter Mundt's goal for the ensemble is to grow his
students' love of singing and performing. A Marshfield resident and music educator
with over 25 years of experience, Mundt provides students with exciting musical
experiences that challenge them in a safe and supportive environment. In addition to
teaching general music to elementary students in the Scituate Public Schools
system, Mundt is a guitarist, bassist and singer who performs in and around the
South Shore and Boston.
SSC Youth Chorus's open rehearsal will be followed by a pizza party, open to all

ACT to Hold Auditions for A Chorus Line
The Academy of The Company Theatre (A.C.T.) Conservatory announces auditions
for teen actors ages 13 to 18 for the musical theatre sensation A Chorus Line, on
Wednesday, September 26 and Friday, September 28, 3:30 to 6 pm at The
Company Theatre Center for the Arts, 30 Accord Park Drive, Norwell. Actors must

attend both audition days. The production is directed by Jordie Saucerman, with
music direction by Melissa Carubia and choreography by Sally Forrest.
Audition candidates should bring a headshot, arrive dressed for movement, and be
prepared to read from the script, available on site. Prepare to sing 32 bars of a song
in a similar musical style, songs from A Chorus Line are acceptable. Sheet music
must be supplied for the accompanist. A resume is helpful but not required. A $20
non-refundable audition fee is due upon arrival.Tuition for A Chorus Line classes and
production is $425 per student, some financial assistance is available..
Rehearsals begin the week of October 1. Performances of A Chorus Line are held

Open Auditions for Disney's Mulan Jr.
The Academy of The Company Theatre (A.C.T.) announces auditions for youth
actors ages 8 to 15 for their upcoming production of Disney's Mulan
Jr., on Wednesday, September 5 and Thursday, September 6, from 3:30 to 6:00
pm at The Company Theatre Center for Performing Arts, 30 Accord Park Drive,
Norwell. Disney's Mulan Jr. has music and lyrics by David Zippel, Jeanine Tesori,
Stephen Schwartz, Matthew Wilder, Alexa Junge, with adapted and arranged music,
and additional music and lyrics by Bryan Louiselle, book adapted and additional
lyrics by Patricia Cotter, based on the 1998 Disney film Mulan, and the story "Fa
Mulan" by Robert D. San Souci. The production is directed by Kevin Mark Kline,
with music direction by Melissa Carubia and choreography by John Crampton.
In Disney's Mulan Jr., the setting is ancient China, and the Huns have invaded. The
young girl Mulan defies the village matchmaker, takes up arms, and disguises
herself as a boy in order to serve in the army. With her mischievous dragon Mushu
by her side, Mulan prepares for a great battle, where she must choose between
revealing her true identity as a girl or saving all of China with her master plan. Based
on the Disney animated film, Mulan Jr. brings this ancient world to life with
memorable hit songs and a story that warmly celebrates bravery, culture, and honor
Actors should be strong singers and dancers, and plan to attend both days of
auditions, which includes learning a song, movement, and character work. Students
of all ethnic backgrounds are encouraged to audition. Not all audition candidates will
be cast.

The award-winning Company Theatre announces non-equity open call auditions for
the musical classic Oliver! on Monday, September 17, 6:30 to 8 pm for children, 7:30
pm for adults, at The Company Theatre Center for Performing Arts, 30 Accord Park
Drive, Norwell. Callbacks will be held on Tuesday, September 18. Oliver!'s book,
music and lyrics are by Lionel Bart. The show is directed by Zoe Bradford and Jordie
Saucerman, with music direction by Steve Bass and choreography by Sally Forrest.

The beloved Charles Dickens novel springs to life in Lionel Bart's musical that has

A.C.T. Fall Performing Arts Workshops
The Academy of the Company Theatre (A.C.T.) announces a new teen and
adult Fall Performing Arts Workshops series, now open to the general public for
registration. All programs are held at The Company Theatre Center for the
Performing Arts, 30 Accord Park Drive, Norwell.
You've Got The Part -- Now What?
Sunday, September 23, 10 am to 1 pm
Fee: $60
(Teens and Adults) Actor and Director Danny Bolton, member of the Actor's Equity
Association (AEA) teaches students about effective methods to approach roles
through the rehearsal process. What are the tools that will enhance the actor's
performance? What questions should the actor be asking of the directorial team?
How can an actor break bad habits? How can the actor make the most out of
rehearsal time and individual work? Under the perspective and guidance of a
working actor/director theatre artist, students have a unique glimpse into what skills
and approaches the actor can contribute to the rehearsal room, so that the
performance is dynamic and rich.
Actors, Safety and Self-Advocacy
Sunday, October 21, 11 am to 12:30 pm
Fee: $25
(For ages 14+) A predominantly lecture-style class which aims to instill in actors the
notion that they are responsible for being their own safety advocate out in the
professional world. This class introduces critical skills and concepts that are not
generally covered in college theatre education. Learn basic methods to safety-
check stage combat weapons, the importance of knowing personal limits, how and
when to ask appropriate questions related to safety, the importance of self-
advocating in the face of a safety-related issue, and what the chain of command to
address your safety concerns. While useful at all ages, this class is particularly
important for students heading to collegiate theatre programs, and young theatre
practitioners entering the professional arena.
Choreography Workshop with Jocelyn
Sunday, November 18, 11 am to 1 pm
Fee: $35
(For ages 12-18) Students learn to utilize dance as a vehicle for storytelling and
expressing themes. The class collectively brainstorms ideas, choosing one to
develop as a short piece, performed with music by the workshop's end.
