Rationale
This rubic is meant to assess the students ability to meet the fifth grade PE standard 4.3
to set three short term and three long term goals to improve their fitness. The rubric addresses
the activity that we performed during the lesson from week 2 assignment A by checking all of
the aspects of their goals that were taught during that lesson. The rubric checks their
understanding based off a reflection that will be assigned at the end of the unit because in order
for students to adopt goal setting as strategy they use to promote high achievement in their
lives they must look back and see how it was beneficial for them or what they could do
differently in the future to help make it beneficial to them. Finally, I included following through on
the goal. This is very important for the scope of this unit because it includes six weeks of
learning scientifically proven training methods to work towards improving physical fitness.
Working hard specifically towards improving and achieving something specific and an important
aspect to successful goal setting and should be addressed in evaluating students’ success in
meeting the state standard.
