PHISMETS NDMU
PHISMETS NDMU is one of the organizations recognized by the administrators in
the university. This Chapter contains brief history of the organization, purpose of the
organization and placement of the organization in the university.
PHISMETS
Philippine Society of Medical Technology Students (PHISMETS) is a special
program by Philippine Association of Schools of Medical Technology and Public Health
(PASMETH) through its Committee on Student Development to serve as a transforming
venue for the integral and holistic development of Medical Technology students.
Aside from the annual student congress held during the first quarter every year,
PHISMETS also conducts an annual Medical Technology Student Leadership Training
and Strategic Planning conducted during the month of May. This activity is aimed at
enhancing the leadership qualitties of the students of member of schools and to promote
camaraderie among student leaders. Starting 2014, a Council of Student Advisers will
also be designated yearly during the leadership Training Seminar to help facilitate
PHISMETS Chapters in the Philippines.
The PHISMETS Insignia contains significant symbols that holistically represents
the unity and the wholeness of Medical Technology, specifically here in the country. The
three large colored circles symbolizes the continuous active involvement of Luzon,
Visayas and Mindanao to the national transforming venue of Medical Laboratory Science
students; Laurel symbolizes nature and the continuation of life every year; Green Letters
for the color of health; Five Bubbles from a test tube which represent the five objectives
embodies in the Constitution; 15 interconnected molecules outside a test tube signify the
unity of the 15 board schools exploring various possibilities and aiming towards the
integral growth and holistic development of Medical Laboratory Science students; and
Microscope that signifies Medical Laboratory Science.

PHISMETS NDMU BRIEF HISTORY
PHISMETS NDMU is a fully registered student organization of the Office of
Students Affairs and Development (OSAD) and it is composed of Medical Technology
students of Notre Dame of Marbel University.
In the year 2013, under the administration of Ms. Rowenie Cynthia Non, Society
of Medical Laboratory Science Students (SMEDLABS), the former name of the
organization was changed to Philippine Society of Medical Technology Students
(PHISMETS) as a representation that the organization was affiliated to PHISMETS
National.
In the year 2014, PHISMETS NDMU remains standing as an independent
organization in the university. Under the administration of Ms. Bai Aishwayra Haylee
Dalidig, the organization was the host of the 3rd Medical Technology Week and declared
as the overall champion during the regional event. The event was composed of schools
in the region namely Notre Dame of Marbel University, Notre Dame of Dadiangas
University, St. Alexius College and General Santos Doctors Medical School Foundation
Inc.
One of the objectives of the organization is to develop and enhance the growth of
every member to become more imbued with Marist character, competent and culture
sensitive individuals. In the year 2015, under the administration of Mr. Ryan M.
Pedregosa, the organization became the host of the 2 nd Regional Students Congress
participated by the Medical Technology schools in the region. Under his administration,
the organization was declared by the College Dean, Dr. Joan P. Palma and the College
of Arts and Sciences Student Council Officers as one of the most outstanding
organization under College of Arts and Sciences.
In the year 2016, under the administration of Ms. Kristille Dawn Fiel, the club
organized a CPD for registered Medical Technologists under the guidance of Mr. Nava.
The organization also joined on its first time the university club fair to promote the club’s
advocacies.
Ever since, the PHISMETS – NDMU continues to promote wellness to its members
and to the community. In the year 2017, under the administration of Mr. Brent Kenneth T.
Lagarto, the club organized the first Camaraderie Day for the Medical Technology
students. The organization also sponsored the Philippine Parasitic Safari of the 3 rd year
students which promotes not only parasite awareness but also, to promote the Medical
Technology Profession to the Senior High School of the institution. This advocacy was
evidently seen in the year 2018, summing to an increased number of MedTech Freshmen
as to compare with the past freshmen enrollees.
The administration of Mr. Brent Lagarto extended their term for another year.
Giving a way to extend more activities to the students and to the community. This school
year 2018 – 2019, many programs and activities were prepared. The “Halad-Kahimsog
Program” was established, which literally mean “offer wellness”. Programs like “lakbay-
pagkain” and “Love your heart” program will also be rekindle to offer health and wellness
to others.
Philippine Society of Medical Technology Students of Notre Dame of Marbel
University headed by their ever-supportive moderator, Hazel Carbon-Granil, RMT, MiB,
MSMT, will continue to become an instrument in shaping Medical Technology students in
the university.
PURPOSE OF THE ORGANIZATION
Philippine Society of Medical Technology Students continues to exist in the
university with its following purpose:
To promote a closer union among the members so they may mutually assist one
another.
To promote welfare of the members.
To encourage holistic growth of the members.
Promote awareness of the trends in the field of Medical Technology within and
beyond the school walls.

PLACEMENT OF THE ORGANIZATION IN THE UNIVERSITY
Philippine Society of Medical Technology Students NDMU Chapter is a registered
campus organization recognized by the Office of Student Affairs and Development
headed by the Director, Wilter C. Friales, Ph.D.
PHISMETS NDMU from Medical Technology Department is an independent
campus organization under College of Arts and Sciences. The College nurtures the
students to become professionally competent and endowed with the Christian Spirit of
service, social insight, commitment and humanitarian dedication.

RECOMMENDATIONS
The following pertains to the recommendations of PHISMETS-NDMU officers to
incoming officers in order to manage and conserve the organization to achieve more
success through peaceful camaraderie and just responsibilities.
1. Information dissemination is very necessary to have an ongoing communication
and reduce the chances of, or if possible, eradicate the side effects of confusion
throughout the student body. With the fast advancement of technology, everyone
can reach each person through their smartphones through social media,
messenger accounts, etc. Having an abrupt yet ahead-of-time announcements
can increase the success rate of notifications.
2. Plan and act in advance. Huge programs/events should be planned for one to two
months (or at least 2-3 weeks) and even a simple program should be formulated
1-2 weeks before actions are applied. This would reduce problems during the
event.
3. Participate and be active in all programs of the school or to the PHISMETS club.
The said club officers should keep in touch not just with the school but also into
the updates and issues pertaining to PHISMETS Regional and National.
4. If club meeting is to be commenced, make sure to create the schedule feasible,
flexible and planned ahead of time in order for other officers from the 1 st years to
the seniors be noted and none of the agenda will be missed by anyone.
5. Economize transparently. If possible, maximize the use of club funds and have
external sponsorships to reduce financial problems. After every use of funds,
financial audits must be developed as soon as possible and be presented to the
student body bulletin board.
6. On Departmental assemblies, create schedules within one week or more before
the event in order to prepare and notify the students of the agenda. If excuse letters
to the Department Head is allowed, it will be better for student’s with inflexible time
table. This will reduce misinformation and rescheduling for another or the same
assemblies.
