Barangay Protection Order Guidelines

Coun. Cheche Pablo Santos attended an event on preventing violence against women in November 2008. At the event, the importance of barangays being knowledgeable and able to issue Barangay Protection Orders was discussed. In the letter, Coun. Santos shares pamphlets and a flowchart about conducting BPOs with Coun. Jesse Cruz, president of the Liga ng mga Barangay. Coun. Santos also requests the materials be reproduced for all barangays and suggests Atty. Voltaire San Pedro provide training to help barangays properly understand and implement BPOs.

Dear Coun. Cruz,

During the celebration of Anti-violence against women last November 2008, this representation together with
Coun. Baby Pillas and our DSWD chief Ms. Mila Lagaran attended the celebration and there the importance of
barangay participation in the prevention and intervention of any violence against women were the main focus.
Specifically, the discussion and presentation revolved around the significance of every barangay to be
knowledgeable and equipped with the issuance of Barangay Protection Order (BPO).

In this light, I would want to share the information that we have gathered. Attached in this letter are the
pamphlet and a flowchart on the conduct of BPO for our implementors’ easy understanding. For an more in
depth appreciation of this principle, may I also suggest that the assistance of our Legal Department headed by
Atty. Voltaire San Pedro for a possible lecture or training be involved since it is one of their department’s
programs to promote community involvement and information dissemination on new laws. May I also request
that the pamphlets and posters be reproduced for the consumption of every barangays.

Coun. Baby Pillas and our DSWD chief Ms. Mila Lagaran attended the celebration and there the importance of

endorsing these materials to the Liga ng mga Barangay President Jesse Cruz for a smooth coordination if in the
event they ask your office’s assistance for an in-depth understanding of this principle through your programs
on information dissemination and in capacitating our barangay service-providers with the legalities and proper
implementation of BPO.
