Adult Attachment Scale

This document introduces the Revised Adult Attachment Scale, which contains 18 questions about how respondents generally feel in close relationships. The scale contains three 6-item subscales that measure: 1) comfort with closeness and intimacy (CLOSE), 2) ability to depend on others (DEPEND), and 3) anxiety about being rejected or unloved (ANXIETY). Respondents rate how characteristic each statement is of them from 1 to 5. Some items are reverse coded, then the ratings for each subscale are averaged to obtain scores on closeness, dependence, and anxiety.
