Any individual or organization can share information electronically by
publishing it on the Web. The information you find in your search may be
inaccurate, incomplete, out of date, or reflect the bias of the author. Or it
may be useful, accurate, and timely.

Directions: Do a search on a topic of your choice. Evaluate the quality of


the information and data of three sources retrieved from your
search. Use a separate form for each site that you evaluate.

Accuracy
- Is the information reliable and free from error?
- Can the background information be verified?
- Is research documented with a bibliography?

Authority of the Source


- Who authored the information and why?
- Is the author or editor a known expert in the field?
- Is the site maintained by a reputable organization?

Objectivity
- Is there a minimum of bias?
- Is there an attempt to sway the opinion of the audience?
- Are opinions attributed to specific credible sources?

Recency
- Is the information up-to-date?
- Are the statistics current?
- Is the publication date indicated?

Coverage
- What topics are included?
- Are topics covered in depth?
- Is information specific to topic?

Cross Check
- How could I cross check the information?
- How does this material fit with what I already know?
- Do the linked sites reveal biases of the author?
- Do other sources support this site’s information?
