Ganesh Gadda Temple Overview and History
Ganesh Gadda Temple Overview and History
Temple History:
Three hundred years ago Sri Siva Rama Bhattu from Karnataka walked to
Tirumala on foot. He was a devotee of lord Ganapathi. On the day of sankatahara
chaturti, where he stays, to that place only lord Vinayaka will come for his
poojas. Long ago Rudraram was a forest area, once Siva Rama Bhattu reached
Rudraram. On the occasion of the Sankatahara Chaturthi, he formed the idol of
Vinayaka in the form of a large stone because of his will. He worshiped Lord Ganesha
and made his defense to the Swami Murti (idol) and continued his journey. From
that day onwards, this idol is worshiping. Once upon a time, this temple served as a
great residence for the saints.
This temple has been ruined in time and has recently recovered its glory.
Many pilgrims visit this temple every day. The main shrine has a vast façade (hall). In
the inner temple Ganesh is in the form of an acorn (sindhoora varnam). The idol
unveiled by Sri Sivarama Bhattu has been obscured. When a devotee, Makham Das,
was riding on the horse and the knight stopped moving forward, Makham Das stayed
in this area and Lord Ganapathy informed his presence that he wanted to build a
temple. Following Swami's command, he built the temple for Swami. The temple
has been in ruins during the time and recently successfully reconstructed the temple
four years ago.
Generally we can find this type of acorn (sindhura) idols in northern India.
In south India, mainly black idols are there, but this idol is of acorn, hence this idol
faces towards south. The myths say that we can get instant benefits by worshipping
acorn idol of Ganesha. Sankatahara Chaturthi, Vinayaka Chaviti Navaratri and
Mahashivaratri celebrations are held at this temple very well. Many devotees from
different places will attend this celabrations and will get blessings from lord Ganesh,
and Homas will also be performed. On that day free prasadams (food) also
distributed to the devotees.
