Hispanic Political Focus Group

October 12, 2010 McLennan County Community College Conference Center

4601 N. 19th Street Waco, TX

5:30 - Pre-registration / Orientation

6:30 - Program begins
8:30 - Program ends
9:30 - Facility cleared

Objective: To gather input from local Hispanics regarding issues politically relevant to
their community. The participants will engage in a series of multi-media presentations
designed to collect responses from a varied demographic. Interactive immediate-
response devices will be used to collect the data for future analysis.

Thomas L. Bratcher, Ph.D. Professor of Statistics, Baylor University (Bosque County

Republican Chairman) will manage the analysis of the collected data. The survey will be
based on the following categories:

1. Border Security:
David McIntyre, Ph.D. noted Homeland Security expert will give a presentation on
border security. He will pose several real-time situations with explanations of the
overwhelming task of providing a safe and secure border.

2. Illegal Immigration:
An 8 minute documentary, “La Realidad de Mundo” (The Real World) produced by
Orlando Briones and presented by Elaine Garcia, documents life for illegal immigrants
in several border towns in Texas. Questions will be based on content presented in this
film concerning illegal immigration.

3. Health Care:
Dr. Irma Aguirre, Physician, will present an in-depth look at “Obama-Care” and the
consequences associated with this approach of providing mandatory “affordable” health
care to all American citizens. Dr. Aguirre is a Cuban immigrant whose father practiced
medicine in Cuba. From family experiences, she relates what can happen to a nation
when socialism and unchecked politicians control the government as it relates to
medical practice and care giving.
4. Teen Pregnancy:

Dr. John Pisciotta of Pro-Life Waco and Ayolandra Garcia of Care Net, will discuss the
problems and consequences of teen pregnancy among Hispanic girls, which is the
highest of all demographics in many counties across the state.

Immediate Response System (e-Systems)

Data will be collected using e-System’s immediate response pads. The 90 pre selected
participants will pre-register according to 6 demographic fields ranging from Illegal
immigrants with no legal relatives to 3rd and 4th generation legal Hispanics. They will
each be assigned a coded transmitter to register their responses with results of the
survey displayed and reviewed at the end. The final hour of the evening will include
discussion groups and interviews.

It is our hope that this Focus Group Initiative can be conducted in at least three other
regional areas of the State to compile a comprehensive study of the current Hispanic
mindset concerning the addressed issues. It is our premise that this properly
documented and analyzed information will be of value to the Republican Party of Texas
as we go forward with Outreach planning.
