A MANUAL FOR PREPARATION OF PROJECT REPORT
This manual is intended to provide broad guidelines to the MMM, MPM, PGDBM students in the
preparation of the project report.
Standard format for ‘Project Report’
GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
The size of the project report should not exceed 60 pages of typed matter.
Page Nos should only be given for “Main” report i.e. Chapter I to V.
Annexure / bibliography / appendix should not be given any page nos.
Page dimensions and margin - Standard A4 size (297mm x 210mm) paper may be used
for preparing the copies. Project report should have the following page margins :
Top edge : 30 to 35 mm
Bottom edge : 25 to 30 mm
Left side : 35 to 40 mm
Right side : 20 to 25 mm
The student should submit the project report black rexin hard bound golden embossed to
the institute.
TYPING INSTRUCTIONS
The impressions on the typed copies should be black in colour.
Uniformity in the font of letters in the same project report shall be observed.
A sub-heading at the bottom of a page must have at least two full lines below it or else it
should be carried over to the next page.
The last word of any page should not be split using a hyphen.
One and a half spacing should be used for typing the general text.
ARRANGEMENT OF CONTENTS OF PROJECT REPORT :The sequence in which the
project report material should be arranged and bound should be as follows:
Title Page – (Name of the topic, Name of the company/ organisation, Course name,
Student’s name & Roll no., , University of Pune , Name of the institute, Academic year)
APPENDIX I
TIMR/TCOER Bonafide certificate signed by Internal Guide & Director of the Institute
APPENDIX II
Double spacing should be used for typing the Bonafide Certificate
Copy of the Letter submitted by the institute to the company / Organization)
APPENDIX III
Company certificate – (Original, signed by HR or Personnel Manager)
Student’s acknowledgement (Thanks to company, IMCS Director, Internal guide, staff
members etc.) Double spacing should be used for typing the Acknowledgement
APPENDIX IV
Executive Summary - It should be an essay type of narrative not exceeding 600 words,
outlining the problem, the research methodology used for tackling it, sample design,
collection of data ( primary / secondary ) techniques used for data processing and
analysis, limitations of research and a summary of the findings.

List of Tables – The list should use exactly the same captions as they appear above the
tables in the text. Numbering should be done.
List of Figures – The list should use exactly the same captions as they appear below the
figures in the text. Numbering should be done.
List of Symbols, Abbreviations and Nomenclature – One and a half spacing should be
adopted for typing the matter under this head. Standard symbols, abbreviations etc. should
be used.
Index - Chapters
The format for typing chapter headings, divisions headings and sub division headings are
explained through the following illustrative examples.
Chapter heading : CHAPTER 1
Division heading INTRODUCTION
Division heading : 1.1 OUTLINE OF PROJECT REPORT
Sub-division heading : 1.1.2. Literature review.
The word CHAPTER without punctuation in the center 50 mm down from the top of the page.
Two spaces below, the title of the chapter should be typed centrally in capital letters.
The text should commence 4 spaces below this title, the first letter of the text starting 20mm,
inside from the left hand margin.
The division and sub-division captions along with their numberings should be left-justified.
INDEX (Contents) with page nos.
Chapter I Introduction (12 pages)
1.1 Importance of the topic selected
1.2 Selection of the organization
1.3 Aims & objectives of the project study
1.4 Research Methodology
• Sample design (Size, Type)
• Sources & collection of data ( primary data, secondary data & sources)
• Methods & Techniques used for data processing & analysis (such as
coding , classification , tabulation , % & statistical techniques etc. )
• Limitations of research (if any).
Chapter II Theory related to the topic of study - relevant concepts (08 pages)
Chapter III Organization – History, Growth, Organizational Structure (05 pages)
(Back ground of the problem)
Chapter IV Analysis & Interpretation of Data (Data, tables, Pie-Diagram, Methods,
Graphs, Techniques, Sample calculations, Foot Notes, Inférences) (25 pages)
Chapter V Findings & Suggestions (Based on Chapter IV) (05 pages)

APPENDICES – Questionnaire (& other related material, if available & required)
Appendices are provided to give supplementary information, which if included in the
main text may serve as a distraction and cloud the central theme under discussion.
Appendices should be numbered using Arabic numerals e.g. Appendix I, Appendix II etc.
BIBLIOGRAPHY - (List of reference books / articles , journals , web-sites etc. used)

Notes –
1) Every student should make a separate project report. The coping of the other’s projects is
not allowed.
2) Whenever required , you may take the guidance from Internal Project Guide.
3) a. Last date for submission of rough final report ____________________

4) Internal marks would not be forwarded to University of Pune, unless project reports are
submitted in specified time.
5) For late submissions you may be marked ‘Absent’
6) Three bound report copies to be submitted on or before the specified date = (University ,
