Jaypee University of Engineering & Technology: Course: Microprocessor & Controllers (14B11Ec415) Tutorial: 06

This document contains 7 questions related to generating pulses and square waves from counters shown in a figure. The questions ask the student to: 1) Write an instruction to generate a 50μs pulse from counter 0 running at 2MHz. 2) Write an instruction to generate a 1kHz square wave from counter 1 running at 2MHz with the gate tied to 5V. 3) Show the output waveform from counter 1 programmed in mode 0 with a 1MHz clock and count of 1000.

TUTORIAL: 06
1 Write instruction to generate a pulse every 50µs from counter 0shown in figure 1. Consider the
clock frequency is 2 MHz for counter 0.

2 Write an instruction to generate a 1 kHz square wave from counter 1 shown in figure 1.
Assume the Gate of the counter 1 is tied to +5V through 10Ω resistor. Explain the significance
of connecting the gate to +5V. Consider the clock frequency is 2 MHz for counter 1.

3 In figure 1, assume that gate 1 = 1, CLK 1 = 1 MHz and the clock count N=1000. Show the
output waveform of out 1 if it is programmed in mode 0.

4 In figure 1, assume that gate 1 = 1 for 1 ms and 0 for 400 µs and CLK 1 = 1 MHz and the
clock count N=1000. Show the output waveform of out 1 if it is programmed in mode 0.

5 In figure 1, assume that CLK 1 = 1 MHz and the clock count N=500. Show the output
waveform of out 1 if it is programmed in mode 1.

6 In figure 1, assume that CLK 2 = 1 MHz, Gate 2= 1 and the clock count N=750. Show the
output waveform of out 2 if it is programmed in mode 2.

7 In figure 1, assume that CLK 2 = 1 MHz, Gate 2= 1 and the clock count N=1000. Show the
output waveform of out 2 if it is programmed in mode 3.
