Among reference pictures
found on the internet,
‘many of the opties had an
aluminium or steel frame
around the glass part, so 1
painted them silver as well
as insides of the clear parts,
[painted these from the
inside to make sure that
their front faces would be
shiny enough,
Apart from pre-painting
those clear parts, I made
the turret as per the
instructions. It's wise to
lot the glue dry before
completing the quite
complex assemblies like the
red-eyed ‘Shora’ devices on
the front of turret
DON'T MELT IT!
All parts went together
nicely; there were locating
pins everywhere ensuring
that components could be
glued only in one way. The
only problem that I had
with the turret was in step
fifteen, where I managed to
melt a tiny, semi

the AA machine gun

make this same mistake,
‘The multiple smoke-

from quite heavy mould

tricky to clean up. The
same issue was experienced
with the turret-front extr

to shave them all off and

T decided to complete the
running gear and also paint
itbefore I attached the hull
halves together. The link-

produced and their hollow

rows, so there is no tedious
iluing tooth-by-tooth,
The idler wheel is
adjustable so you can fit
the tracks perfectly around
wheels. IF you want, you
cean replace the plastic mesh
with suitable PE mesh. The
exhaust system differs from
that of the 72; on the 7.00
there's an adjusting rod for
closing the exhaust tube,
Dut kit doesn't inelude it.
It's quite easy to make if,

PAINTING
After a careful cleaning with
diluted washing-up liquid
and rinsing with warm
water, Ilet the model dry
overnight. I masked all the
pre-painted clear parts with
Gunze's Mr. Masking Sol

vehicle with Vallejo's Grey

T wanted to paint my 7-90

using the instructions
as a painting guide. For
‘Russian modern green’ I
used Tamiya XF-67 NATO
Green, lightened with
some XFt Yellow Green,
For the sand colour used

The decals for the vehicle

and then I varnished whole

‘The paintwork was done.
Overall, a great kit with

Revell’s bombers in 1:72 I was
anxious to give the larger seale

‘The first thing you have to
deal with is the 100+ page
instruction sheet, which can,
bea little confusing at times
so just make sure you study it
as you go along, Another small
‘matter to deal with is the parts
fon the sprue trees; it seems
that they are not numbered in
any particular order, s0 you
have to play a hunting game for
your part. Enough with that,
how let's build,GETTING STARTED
We start with the cockpit
which has a good level of
detail in it. The seat has
‘moulded-in seatbelts which
T ground off and then added
fa nice photo-etch set from
Eduard. This makes a big
difference because they are
clearly visible under all
that glass. With the control
column, rudder pedals and
various other details in place
I proceeded to paint the
cockpit RLMG6 and give it
‘a black wash and drybrush
to bring out the details

Stops thirty-soven to forty-
‘two have you building the
engine nacelles. Pay close
attention to the instructions,
‘mark your parts, dry fit
and you'll be okay. A small
problem was experienced
where the lower radiators fit
to the bottom of the engine
nacelles; a small amount of
filler was needed here,
‘The engine exhausts are
hollow but I still decided to
thin them out some more
with a motor-tool. The wings
fare constructed in three

with nicely detailed wheels

you so desire, T necded some

Tattached the outer wing

With the outer wing panels
attached I proceeded with
the landing gear. They look
spindly and complex but
when done are quite strong.

Eduard has a nice pre-cut

to the rescue and makes life
alittle easier so it only took
f couple of hours for that
tedious task.
TIME TO PAINT
‘Now that the construction
‘was finished its time to
start the painting. I chose a
scheme from the Squadron
Signal He-111 in Action
book, I liked the ey

cowling, rudder and fuselage
band, Although I did take
some artistic license and
added red spinners for a
little more colour.
Tused a combination of
‘Tamiya and Modelmaster

Iwata HP-B air brush at
about 16-20 PSL
T began painting by pre-
shading the panel lines with
‘Tamiya flat black first. On
such a big model, that took
‘most of one evening build
session. It looks messy at
first, but with the paint to
come, adds a nice touch to
the finished look, Tamiya
XP-28 Light Blue was
sprayed on the underside,
building up light coats
until the desired effect was
achieved. For the top, the
standard RLM70/71, 1 used
‘Tamiya X-61 Dark Green,
and Mode] Master RLM70.
With a splinter scheme I
mask, I sprayed each
panel with the base colour,
building up slowly, and then
sprayed lighter shades of
teach colour in the panels for
faded worn look. Man, that’s
a lot of painting for the big

‘moulded integrally. We ‘mention; no single moulding ©
have been spoilt recent
with the callipers coming
separately so it brought back
the challenge of accurate
masking here so the disc
parts could be painted
in their combinations of
colours. The underside
assembles without issue,
parts-fit is great and
everything aligns perfectly.
‘The build in this area feels
a bit Tamiya-esque, as does
a lot of the kit to be honest
which is no bad thing,
especially when the fit is as
004 too.
‘When the underside is
complete, the instructions
Dis brakes during painting, and ited
‘TMM! 199 May 2012 49is made up from no
less than six parts! Same
.govs for the aforementioned
Seat belt material and photo-
etch, These build beautifully
Dut make sure you make
the belts ‘sag’ behind the
seats..'ve seen s0 many car
builds where the belts look
0 spring loaded behind the
seats that it makes me eringe
at the thought! For super-
detailers, there is potential
with wiring, carbon decal
and such but for an out of
the box build, the detailing
is very good. The roll cage
can be assembled as one
uunit then installed after the
interior is done but it is very
fiddly, especially with the
seat belts thrown into the
‘mix too, When I closed the
‘mode! up I looked at where
Belkits had placed the cage
joints and to be honest, if |
built another one of these I
would build up the cage as
Belkits instruct. They have
taken care to hide the part
joins really well
PANEL BASHING
‘The body shape has been well
ed in this model and
the moulding is clean and
crisp too. Mould seams are
very fine and a quick buzz
over with a sanding stick
hhad it ready for primer and
a coat of Halfords Appliance
Gloss White. This resulted in
a finish good enough to bang
the decals onto without a
layer of clear. The decals are
very good, logos look spot on
fand they are well shaped too.
‘They conform well with Daco
Strong solution although be
careful as an over-generous
application of the solution ean
make colours run, as I found
ut in a couple of areas.
‘The decals fit well ~ this
livery would be done by
prinied wrap decals on the
real car and these would
give exposed white edges
around lights etc. However,
Trused artistic licence here
fas on a model I fee it looks
better with these touched
in, so that's what I did, hope
you don't mind! After the
decals were thoroughly dry,
the body, wing, mirrors and
wssociated white parts were
coated with Omnicron 2K
clear-coat, a product used for
full size cars.
BRING IT TOGETHER
‘Unusually, the window
rubber mouldings are
included in the glass part.
Having masked and painted
all these T was worried about
removing the black from
these areas when popping
into the body. After some
weapons-grade wincing
Toon had it in though,
‘mercifully without removing
any paint, From here on,
the rest of the body parts
went on without a problem,
all fitted and located well.
Unusually though, no
faces are supplied for the
side mirrors leaving two
deep holes where the glass
should be. A simple remedy
was two small pieces of
aluminium tape to replicate
the mirror glasses. Belkits
do not supply any aerials
with the kit either, a good
thing in my view as most of
the injection moulded ones
supplied with other kits
‘make the resulting model
look a bit toy-like. I simply
‘make some out of fuse wire
‘using the box top image as
fan approximate location. ©
