5. TENSES (waktu kejadian / peristiwa)

1) SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE (waktu biasa)


Signal words/kata-kata penunjuk: always, often, usually, seldom, every day, never, normally,
first, then, etc.
Use/penggunaan

 Something happens repeatedly/sesuatu terjadi secara terus menerus


 Things in general / sesuatu yang umum
 Actions taking place one after another/kegiatan yang berturutan (bdk.langkah2 pd teks
prosedur)
 Actions set by a timetable or schedule/kegiatan yg diatur dgn jadwal/roster
 To give instruction or directions/beri instruksi, petunjuk atau arahan.

Form / bentuk
 Infinitive untuk orang ketiga tunggal (he, she, it) infinitive(verb/kt.kerja) +-s/-es
(hanya untuk kalimat positive).
 Untuk kalimat negative dan kalimat tanya, kita tambahkan kata kerja bantu “do”
(untuk yang bukan orang ketiga tunggal: I, you, we, they) dan tambahkan kata kerja
bantu “does” untuk orang ketiga tunggal: he, she, it). setelah kata kerja bantu “do/does”
kt.kerja berikutnya tidak boleh ditambah ”-s/-es” .

2) PRESENT CONTINUOUS TENSE (waktu sekarang sedang berlangsung)

Signal words/kata-kata penunjuk : now, at the moment, just, just now, Listen!, Look!, right now
Use/penggunaan

- Something is happening at the same time of speaking or around it/sesuatu terjadi saat
berbicara atau sekitar itu.
- Action taking place only for a limited period of time/kegiatan cuma terjadi untuk sementara
waktu saja
- Action arranged for the future/kegiatan yang sudah dirancang untuk masa yang akan datang

Form / bentuk : To be (am / is / are) +infinitive(kata kerja)+-ing

Examples
 Affirmative /kalimat positif :

He is studying
We are studying
 Negative
I am not working
He is not working

 Question/ kalimat Tanya

3) PAST TENSE (waktu lampau)

Signal words/kata-kata penunjuk: last Sunday, yesterday, 10 minutes ago, last night, in 2015, the
other day, etc.

Use/penggunaan

 Action took place in the past, mostly connected with an expression of time(no
connection to the present)/ peristiwa terjadi di waktu lampau, kebanyakan berkaitan
dengan ungkapan waktu lampau dan tidak ada hubungan dengan waktu saat ini.

Form / bentuk
 With regular verbs/kata kerja beraturan infinitive(kt.kerja/verb)+-ed work-worked
 With irregular verbs/kata kerja tak beraturan : second/2nd colomn of the table of the
irregular verbs. (bdk.list irregular verbs)

 Untuk kalimat negative dan kalimat tanya, kita tambahkan kata kerja bantu “did” dan kata
kerja sesudah” did” dalam bentuk biasa/infinitive
