Debate: Alternative Medicine Risks

The 1st speaker from the affirmative team argued that alternative medicine poses a threat to public health. They defined alternative medicine as medical therapies not considered orthodox by the medical profession, such as herbalism and crystal healing. The speaker believes alternative practitioners cannot provide proper diagnoses and treatments are not based on scientific evidence. Alternative therapies are often based on pseudoscience rather than proven experience. There is a risk that serious health conditions could go unrecognized if people solely rely on alternative treatments. Therefore, the government agrees that alternative medicine threatens public health.

Script Debate: 1st Speaker from Affirmative Team

Motion: This House Believes Alternative Medicine Poses a Threat to

Public Health

Assalmu’alaikum wr. wb. Good morning respected judges, my honourable

opponent and members of the audience. Thanks for time which given to me as first
speaker from affirmative team.
Let me define today’s motion. According to the Oxford Advanced Learner’s
Dictionary, alternative medicine means any of a range of medical therapies that are not
regarded as orthodox by the medical profession, such as herbalism, naturopathy, and
crystal healing; threat means a person or thing likely to cause damage or danger; and
public health means the health of the population as a whole, especially as monitored,
regulated, and promoted by the state. So alternative medicine consists of practices
claimed that have the healing effects of medicine but which are disproven, unproven,
impossible to prove, or are excessively harmful in relation to their effect.
Ladies and gentlemen, we strongly believe with the motion ‘This House Believes
Alternative Medicine Poses a Threat to Public Health’. Because we believe that
alternative practitioners are not able to provide a diagnosis. Alternative diagnoses and
treatments are not taught as part of science-based healthcare systems and curriculum in
medical schools, and are not used in any practice where treatment is based on scientific
knowledge or proven experience. Alternative therapies are often based on religion,
tradition, superstition, belief in supernatural energies, pseudoscience, errors in reasoning,
propaganda, fraud, or lies. Regulation and licensing of alternative medicine and health
care providers varies between and within countries. So, there is a risk that people could
have a serious condition that wouldn’t be recognized until it’s too late if people just rely
on alternative treatments.
Therefore, as a conclusion, we the government strongly agree that ‘This House
Believes Alternative Medicine Poses a Threat to Public Health’. Thank you.

Biarkan aku mendefinisikan gerak hari ini. Menurut Kamus Oxford Advanced Learner,
terlambat jika orang hanya mengandalkan pengobatan alternatif.
Terima
kasih.
