Word Games With English is a series of 3 books of carefully graded
language activities designed to stimulate learners to practise, activate
and extend their English vocabulary.
Pedagogical Basis
@ Book I, for beginners and post-beginners, is closely based on the
vocabulary designated by the Council of Europe for Waystage level.
This represents the first stage of a two-stage learning process resulting
in a basic general foreign language ability (Threshold level, covered by
Book 2 in this series).
@ A number of words have also been added from grades | and 2 of
the Cambridge English Lexicon (R. Hindmarsh}, based on 4 major
frequency counts.
@ There are 700 lexical items in this book, allowing the learner to
‘survive’ in an English-speaking context and providing a solid basis for
further study.
Presentation
@ The vocabulary concentrates on the most essential topic areas:
personal and family/nouse and home/free time and entertainment/
travel/health/places/shopping etc.
@ Each page is highly visual with the words contextualised and their
meanings made clear by the illustrations.
@ Each game makes demands on the learner's intelligence and
imagination and calls for active participation.
@ There is built-in revision and recycling of certain lexical items in
different contexis.
@ The book is suitable for teaching and testing, for class and group
work and for varied further exploitation.
@ There is a full answer key and word list enabling the book to be
used also for self-study and revision. How to use this book
