KERNEL UPGRADE:
Downloading and applying Kernel Patches via SAP Support Portal
PREREQUISITES:
1. Check for the SAP system information (Kernel release no, Supp. package Level number, Database, OS, Unicode system) via
SM51/SystemStatus/disp+work –version
2. Download the Patches from SAP Support Portal ([Link])
Click ‘Download Software’ link
Click on SUPPORT PACKAGES & PATCHES under Alphabetical Index (A-Z) Click on K Click on the System (Uni/NonUni) Click on the
related SAP Kernel Release no
Choose OS and Database Independent look for [Link] – Kernel Part I with latest Patch level number Select and Add to Cart
And
Choose OS and Database Dependent look for [Link] – Kernel Part II with similar Patch level number Select and Add to Cart
3. Download [Link] executable latest version from Sap Support Portal to uncar SAR archives.
Click on SUPPORT PACKAGES & PATCHES under Alphabetical Index (A-Z) Click on S Click on SAPCAR Click on SAPCAR version no
Choose OS from dropdown list Select and Add to Cart
4. Copy the downloaded Kernel files into new/temp directory.
5. Open cmd-prompt and Change path to the new/temp directory using cmd-prompt Uncar both files using “SAPCAR –xvf <name>.SAR”
6. Now create backup directory as exe_old<ddmmyy> to take backup of old Kernel files. (I.e. Copy the old kernel files from existing SAP Kernel
directory “<drive>:\usr\sap\SID\SYS\exe\uc\platform” into the backup directory).
7. Deploy downtime of SAP system via mail for approval.
8. Now STOP the SAP System/Application.[via sap console]
9. Copy and replace the uncared files into existing SAP kernel directory.
10. Now START the SAP System [via SAP Console] and check the SAP Kernel Version and Supp. Patch level.
