Chemical Spill kit contents:
Personal Protective Equipment:
o Chemical Splash Goggles
o Lab Coat
o Heavy Nitrile or Neoprene Gloves
Spill Clean Up Equipment
o Plastic Dust Pan & Brush
o Heavy Plastic Bags (at least 3 mil thickness)
o Universal Spill Absorbent: [Link] mix of sodium carbonate:kitty litter: sand
o Spill pillows or snakes: these must be large enough to absorb a spill of the
largest container in your work area
o Other absorbents/neutralizers as required for the chemicals in the laboratory
Biological spill kit
Dedicated mop and 15.0-litre capacity bucket (do not plan to borrow
a custodian’s mop to clean up spills)
Jug of household bleach (write date of purchase on side and replace annually
to ensure efficacy)
Three old bath towels
Package of J-cloths (cleaning clothes) or box of cheesecloth
Large garbage bags or clear autoclave bags
Pair of large forceps (useful for picking up glass or plastic fragments)
Safety Goggles or face shield
Self Adhesive N99 Respirator-2 are recommended
Laminated copy of the biohazard spill protocol.
