January 2018

As we turn the calendar from one year to the next, we’re often surrounded by top ten lists. The ten
best movies of 2017! The ten best music albums! The top ten news stories! In true new year fashion,
how about a Red Oak Grove list? This may not be your top ten list and I probably could have gone to
15 or 20. But it’s a start. So here we go –
Ten Things (in no particular order) to Celebrate at Red Oak Grove in 2017
A Strawberry Social! The women introduced a new menu this year – to lots of compliments! – and
you turned out in high numbers to help serve our guests!
We bared the cold weather inside the walls of Red Oak Grove as a new heating system was installed.
It was a month of chills and coats-on-inside but we did it. THEN your generosity kicked in to pay off
the new heating system by year’s end. Thank you!
We continue to call, check in, send cards, and pray for those in our community who are sick, grieving,
or unable to come to church. Let’s keep that up in big ways in the year to come!
We’ve started a new Bible study group that meets on the third Thursday of the month. Those who
attend really appreciate it. Join us! (Read page 4 for more details.)
GIFT (Growing in Faith Together) continues to go strong and welcome new families. We have a blast
being together and growing in our faith.
We introduced a prayground in our worship space. Some Sundays it gets used and loved; others it
doesn’t but that’s okay. I’m proud that we took a risk and tried something new for our young families!
Our Noisy Coin offering reached out into our communities, sharing monetary gifts with the Anyuak
worshipping community in Austin, local food shelves, disaster response, the Youth Club of BP, the
Backpack Program in Blooming, and many others. Thank you!
We made strides to improve our building – from painting to landscaping to plans for future projects.
The Monday morning quilting group continues to gather and sew, tie, and bind up quilts that benefit
people near and far. The fellowship and potluck is good for the soul too!
ALL the way YOU served each other and the communities around us. Those things you do that don’t
get noticed or recognized. Those ways you love your neighbors. Thank you.
May 2018 be another wonderful year of gathering, growing, and going forth to serve together.
