Fast Blue B

Fast blue B is an azo dye used to detect phenolic compounds and THC molecules. It generates a deep red or purple chromophore when used on TLC plates, providing a simple, specific, and legally accepted test for cannabis. Fast blue B has a chemical formula of C14H12Cl4N4O2Zn and a structure that allows it to be a sensitive reagent for lip swab tests to detect THC, as demonstrated by various studies.

Fast blue B is a a dye under class of Azo dye with a chemical formula of C14H12Cl4N4O2Zn.

It is used in
detection of phenolic compounds and is extensively used in testing Thc molecules. It has a structure as
shown below .

A specific and simple test for cannabis was introduced in 1968 which is now extensively used in
forensic [de Faubert Maunder, M. J., J. Assoc. Public Analysts . 1969, 7, 24].This proposed
method is sufficiently sensitivity .lip swabs is monitored by this metheod by Woodhouse and
McCarthy and van Zyl .Fast blue is used in TLC plates which is accepted legally as a form of
testing Thc. Fast blue B salt generates a deep red or purple chromophore [1].
