a. Background information of the country

Notes:

1. In 1893, the French started colonizing countries in eastern Indo-China. Laos was
transferred from Siamese to become a part of French Indochina by the treaty Siamese
made with France.
2. For the first time since the early 18th century, the country was unified. However, in 1946,
the French invaded Laos and were in control of the country again. Finally, in 1954, Laos
gained full independence as a constitutional monarchy.
3. Civil war occurred between royalists and the communist group, the Pathet Laos (Land of
the Laos). Eventually, the royalists fled from Laos allowing the Pathet Lao to take over,
and the Laos People's Democratic Republic was founded on 2 December 1975.

Summary:

Laos was once an empire controlling the north eastern part of SEA. It was
controlled by French colonization for two times; second time is during 1946. However, it
gained independence 9 years later but was later influenced by socialism Vietnam and the
country was called Pathet Lao. Currently, Laos governs the country with both socialism
and democratic politics.

Analysis and opinion:

Starting up the project by finding the background information is like laying a carpet
on the ground. More details can be linked to these infos when we dug more deeper into
what we wished to learn more. This will help me more on my later records.
