supermarket A. their average weekly food expenditure is Rs. 250 with a S.D. Rs.
40. For 500 women shoppers chosen at supermarket B, the average weekly
food expenditure is Rs. 220 with a S.D. of Rs. 45. Test at 1% level of significance
whether the average food expenditures of the two groups are equal ?

random from stock for testing purposes. He finds that maker A has a mean life
of 1500 with a S.D. 85 hours and make B has a mean life of 1352 hours with a
S.D. of 96 hours. Discuss the significance of these results.
10. In a study of the effect of a chemical on blood pressure (B.P.) the following
results were recorded.
Exposed group Controlled group
Number 250 100
Mean (B.P.) 115 120
S.D. (B.P.) 10 12
Examine if the chemical has any significant effect on blood pressure.

coffee drinkers. Can we assume that both coffee and tea are equally popular
in this state at 1% level of significance?

information support the conclusion that the majority of men in that city are
smokers? State the hypothesis clearly.
13. A manufacturer claimed that at least 95% of the equipment which he
supplied to a factory confirmed to specifications. An examination of a sample
of 200 pieces of equipment revealed that 18 were faulty. Test his claim at a
significance level of a).01 b) .05.

certain year, 640 patients suffering from typhoid were treated in a
Metropolitan hospital and 63 patients died. Can you consider the Hospital
efficient?

the die biassed?
16. In one country 100 men from a sample of 400 were more than 68 inch tall.
In a neighbouring country, the number was 300 from a sample of 800. Does
this show that there is a greater proportion of men over the height in the
second country than in the first?

found that 18% and 22% of the families respectively were overcrowded. Were
the cities significantly different in respect of overcrowding?
