Field Service Report

The field engineer inspected Raw Mill #2 at Cementos Pacasmayo and observed several issues: the slide shoes had a 10C temperature difference, the gear and pinion had hard impacts twice per revolution, and the mill bearings oil was hot at 58C without proper cooling. Upon stopping the mill, the engineer found excessive wear on the pinion tooth steps and backlash, deep grooves by the mill seals, and worn liners in the second chamber. The conclusions recommended adjusting the slide shoe temperatures, cooling the lubricating oil, removing the rest of the pinion tooth steps, checking for gear noise on the next start, and monitoring wear at the mill feed end seal position.

FIELD SERVICE REPORT

CUSTOMER/LOCATION: Cementos Pacasmayo

FLS CONTRACT NO: 2017.23072

FIELD ENGINEER(S): Arkadiusz Jaskiewicz

EQUIPMENT SIZE: 136x45, Fuller Aerofall Mill

PURPOSE OF VISIT: Inspection of Raw Mill #2

DATE OF VISIT: August 10-15, 2017

Running inspection
The mill and separator was observed during operation.
There was about 10C difference on the slide shoes on both end of the mill;
The gear and pinion have hard impact, twice every revolution at the gear joints;
The oil lubricating mill bearings is hot ~58C, the cooling system is not working;
The separator gearbox has excessive vibrations;

Stopped inspection
Checked and adjusted (when possible):
The mill lift both ends around 0,4-0,5mm with empty mill;
Measured the slide shoes gaps some of them were too much adjusted position of the slide shoes;
Inspected pinion and gear joints. Pinion has heavy axial wear step at the end of the tooth on one of them the step
was removed by grinding.
The pinion backlash and root clearance was found to be excessive no adjustment can be done at this stage of
wear;
Pinions bearings inspected and clearance measured. They look OK;
On the mill feed end, the grooves are very deep around the location of the seals;
Mill liners look OK;
Diaphragm on the second chamber has worn liners they needs to be replaced.
Separator has normal wear inside, blades and body;

CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS:

During first start of the mill, it is necessary to observe the temperatures of the slide shoes. The temp difference should not
be more than 3-4C. Adjust if necessary.

The lubricating oil needs to be cooled down to have proper viscosity. At this moment, the oil used is 320. It may be possible
to use temporary oil with higher viscosity.

The rest of the teeth needs to have the axial step removed.

During next start tit is necessary to check the noise from the gear. If the knocking sound is still there, it may be required to
do additional lapping of the gears. It is only temporary solution.

The mill shell at the feed end is still in acceptable condition, however the wear grooves at the seal position may increase
and the risk of cracking the shell will be higher.
