Do your students struggle with note-taking? Many students find note-taking
dull, uninteresting and just plain hard. Some do not know whats important
enough to write down and some just are slow at writing that they fall behind.
Many struggle with spelling and deciphering their handwriting. So whats the
alternative? How can we fix this issue to help our students become more
engaged? My solution? Sketchnotes.
What exactly are sketchnotes and how do I even begin to incorporate them in
my classroom? It's a form of visual notetaking. It consists of both words and
images that communicate a message, story or notes on whichever topic your class
may be working on. Students make the sketches personal, or their own, so there
is no need to worry if you are an artist or not. This type of note-taking requires
higher-order thinking because students have to use a combination of listening,
thinking and visualizing all at the same time.
The use of these visuals will help students recall information and knowledge better
than just plain words on a piece of paper. Since its their artwork, that will make
the notes more personal and more useful during studying and remembering.

INCLUDES:
The entire deck of fan cards are included in this pack.
Once assembled your students will love that the top visuals go with the
topic of each card in the deck and in most cases, are in the order in which
they appear. There are dashed guidelines for cutting around the card
and top image. This gives a nice 3-D effect and looks unique once
assembled. Requires 8.5 by 11 paper.
One set of black line art for your students to color.
Each card is lined to appeal to a wide range of students.
DIRECTIONS:
1. Go to Print PDF.
2. Print ALL the pages you desire to use.
3. Under printer settings make sure you pick shrink to size to ensure the full deck is
printed with a small margin. I recommend card stock paper.
4. Color and answer first. Thencut This is just easier and will prevent some tearing.
5. Punch a hole using a single-hole puncher. The black dot is on each card.
6. Assemble your deck by the order the terms, concepts, or subtopics would appear
within your unit of study. For example Greek mythology: Zeus would appear first
behind the cover. Then Poseidon, Hades, Athenaetc. The final assembly requires the
cover page to go on top.
7. Give each student a metal clasp. I like the ones my school gives me from the supply
room. Do not open the clasp. Just slide it through the hole starting from the cover.
Once all the cards are on the clasp, open the clasp from the back to hold it in place.-
Students can generally do this on their own. I like to have peer experts assist other
students during this step.
8. Your students can now read and answer questions. I recommend this as the last
step due to seeing first and how much my students enjoy flipping through their deck
and looking at their creativity!
