Tutorial notes

WEEK 1: DIAGRAM
DRILL/ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION

- On the left (blue cones)


are the rats
- On the right (red cones)
are the rabbits
WARM UP: - The aim of the game is
to not let your partner
RATS & tag you before getting to
RABBITS the cone on your
(Variation: designated side
Eagles & - When the teacher calls
Dockers) out either rats or
rabbits then that person
is the chaser
- The other person must
try run away from their
opponent before they get
tagged
- To create a competitive
edge you can get the
loser to do 2 push ups
etc.

- Students are split into 2


DRILL 1: teams on either side of
the field
KICKING - With one ball in play,
(BOMBS AWAY) the idea is for the ball to
land in the oppositions
area
- However if it lands in
their side the other team
scores a point
- If the other team
catches the ball then no
one receives a point
- If the ball lands outside
of the playing area than
no point is rewarded
- First person to reach 5
points wins
DRILL 2: - A line of cones are
set out around 2m
apart
HANDBALLING - 1 student is
allocated a cone
to stand on each
- 1 football per row
of people
- The teacher is to
demonstrate
handballing
technique to the
class
- The aim of this
drill is to handball
down the line of
all the students
and then to pass it
backl again back
down the line
- Repeat 2 times
- Have a race to see
which row can
handball the
fastest up and
down the line (sit
down when done)
- Push ups can be
added as
punishment

DRILL 3: - 5 cones are to be


set up in a zig-zag
HANBALLING IN - 1 student is
A ZIG-ZAG allocated at each
cone
- Students are split
up into groups
- 1 football per
team
- Students are to
handball to the
next person in line
- Whoever they
passed the ball to
they are to run to
their position
- The person at the
end of the is to
then run to the
first players
position
- Once the ball is
passed to
everyone the
team is to sit
down
- VARIATIONS: Use
the opposite hand

handball to these

point
- All students are
to have had a
touch of the ball
before a point is
scored
- Students are
DRILL 2: split into a circle
(around 3-5m
KICKING apart)
- The teacher
demonstrates the
key teaching
points
- Students are to
kick around the
circle in a
clockwise
direction
- To add difficulty
the teacher can
add another ball
- Every second
person is to take a
step in and then
the outside
people take 2
steps back
- Kicking is to
continue to go
around the inside
and the outside
- Students can
also try to kick
with the opposite
foot

DRILL 2: - Students
are to be
split into
HANDBALLI small
NG groups
- Cones are
set out in
a semi-
circle
- Teacher
explains
the drill
- Middle
person
starts with
the
football
- This
person
then
handballs
to the next
person in
a
clockwise
direction
- This
student
catches
the ball
then
returns it
back to
the middle
person
- This is
repeated
with
everyone
in the
semi-circle
- After
everyone
has
received
the ball
everyone
rotates in
a
clockwise
direction
so that
everyone
has a go as
being in
the middle
DRILL 3: - Stduents
are to be
HANBALLIN split into
G IN A STAR smaller
groups
- Cones are
set out in
a star
formation
- Tecaher
then
explains
the drill
- 1 student
is
allocated
per cone
- Student
starts with
the
football
and then
handballs
it to the
second d
person
(anticlock
wise)
- The
student
then runs
through
behind the
student
who just
received
the ball
- Continue
doing this
and run to
whoever
has
handed
you the
ball
DRILL 4: - Each
student
MARKING needs to
be in
possession
of a
football
- Individuall
y the
student
throws the
ball up to
themselve
s and
attempts
to mark
the ball
- Once
students
are
proficient
at this task
add in
claps and
see how
many they
can do
before
catching
the ball
again
- Then add
claps and
a spin
- After
students
have
nailed this,
they are to
then move
into pairs
of threes
and repeat
these skills
- They do
this by
throwing
the ball to
each other

DRILL 5: - Three
BALL cones are
CONTROL set out in
a straight
line
- Students
are in
groups of
3
- The 2 end
cones start
with a
football
each
- One end
cone will
roll/bounc
e the ball
towards
the middle
cone
- The
middle
student
will go and
collect this
ball and
handball it
back to
this
person
- The
person on
the other
cone will
then do
the same
and the
middle
person is
to then
return the
ball
DRILL 6: - Studnets
are split
into small
EVASION groups
- Cones are
set out
into a
straight
line
- Teacher
explains
the drill
- The
middle
cone
represents
the
defender
- Students
are halved
to line up
behind
either side
cones
- Student
starts with
a ball and
runs
forwards
and does a
sidestep/d
odge
around
the cone
then
handballs
to the next
player
- Students
can do a
spin etc to
get around
the
defender
