Bilingualism is a glossary of grammatical rhetorical terms.


Bilingualism refers to the condition of being able to have the ability to speak two languages
equally well.
The person who can speak two languages equally well is called bilingual.

More two kinds of lingual

1- Monolingual - A person who has the ability to use a language.

2- Multilingual - A person who has the ability to use multiple languages.

More than half of the world population is bilingual or multilingual.

Ex :- 56% of Europeans are bilingual.

CODE-MIXING & CODE-SWITCHING

code mixing and code switching are widespread phenomenon in bilingual or multi
lingual communities where the speakers use their native language & their second
languages in different domains.
code means the term for language dialect or style
Speakers in bilingual or multilingual society mix and switch coders according to
certain personal and social conditions of the social communication.
CODE MIXING

Code mixing is the mixing is the mixing of two or more languages or language
varieties in speech
Code mixing is similar to the use or creation of pidgins/but while a pidgin is across groups
that .
It may occur within a multilingual society where speakers share more than one language.
It occurs in morphological, lexical & phonological level.
A lexical level code mixing generally occurs when the speaker doesnt remember or know
the term in language.

Ex:-

Ice-cream vankinen. ( mixes English and Tamil )

Van la ponan. ( mixes English and Tamil )

Ajja company ( mixes English and Hindi )

CODE SWITCHING
code mixing is the practice of moving between variation of language in different
contexts.
It is the use of two or more linguistic varieties in some conversation interaction.

Code switching occurs due to some conditions.


a. Lack of one word in either language.
b. Mood of speaker.
c. To emphasize to point.
d. To attract attention.
e. To show identify within a group.
f. Semantic significance.
