NOTE: Thisbleedingprocedureisonlyforthevehicle'sbasebrakeshydraulicsystem.Forbleedingthe
antilockbrakeshydraulicsystem,(Referto05BrakesStandardProcedure)
CAUTION: Beforeremovingthemastercylinderreservoircap,thoroughlycleanthecapandmaster
cylinderfluidreservoirtopreventdirtandotherforeignmatterfromdroppingintothemaster
cylinderfluidreservoir.
NOTE: Thefollowingwheelsequenceshouldbeusedwhenbleedingthebrakehydraulicsystem.Theuse
ofthiswheelsequencewillensureadequateremovalofalltrappedairfromthebrakehydraulic
system.

NOTE: Whenbleedingthebrakesystem,someairmaybetrappedinthebrakelinesfarupstream,asmuch
astenfeetfromthebleederscrew.Therefore,itisessentialtohaveafastflowofalargevolumeof
brakefluidwhenbleedingthebrakestoensurealltheairgetsout.
Pressurebleedingthebrakesisrecommended,althoughthebrakesmaybemanuallybledorpressurebled.Referto
theappropriatefollowingprocedure.
PRESSUREBLEEDINGPROCEDURE
Followthepressurebleedermanufacturer'sinstructionsforuseofthepressurebleedingequipment.
1. InstallCap,MasterCylinder6921onthemaster
cylinderfluidreservoir.Attachthefluidhosefromthe
pressurebleedertothefittingonCap,MasterCylinder
6921.
2. Attachaclearplastichose(1)tothebleederscrew
andfeedthehoseintoaclearjar(2)containing
enoughfreshbrakefluidtosubmergetheendofthe
hose.
3. Openthebleederscrewatleastonefullturnormore

4. Afterapproximately120240ml(48ounces)offluid
havebeenbledthroughthebrakecircuitandanair
freeflowismaintainedintheclearplastichoseand
jar,closethebleederscrew.
5. Repeatthisprocedureatalltheremainingbleeder
screws.
6. CheckandadjustbrakefluidleveltotheFULLmark
onthereservoir.
7. Checkbrakepedaltravelandfeel.Ifpedaltravelis
excessiveorifthepedalfeelsexcessivelyspongy,
someairmaystillbetrappedinthesystem.Rebleed
thebrakesasnecessaryincludingtheIPBCaliper
BrakeBleedingProcedureontherearcalipersas
listedbelow.
8. Testdrivethevehicletoverifythebrakesareoperatingproperlyandpedalfeeliscorrect.
MANUALBLEEDINGPROCEDURE
NOTE: Tobleedthebrakesmanually,theaidofahelperwillberequired.
1. Attachaclearplastichose(1)tothebleederscrew
andfeedthehoseintoaclearjar(2)containing
enoughfreshbrakefluidtosubmergetheendofthe
hose.
2. Haveahelperpumpthebrakepedalthreeorfour
timesandholditinthedownposition.
3. Withthepedalinthedownposition,openthebleeder
screwatleastonefullturn.
4. Oncethebrakepedalhasdropped,closethebleeder
screw.Afterthebleederscrewisclosed,releasethe
brakepedal.
5. Repeattheabovestepsuntilalltrappedairis
removedfromthatwheelcircuit(usuallyfourorfive
times).
6. Bleedtheremainingwheelcircuitsinthesamemanneruntilallairisremovedfromthebrakesystem.Monitor
thefluidlevelinthemastercylinderreservoirtomakesureitdoesnotgodry.
7. CheckandadjustbrakefluidleveltotheFULLmark.
8. Checkbrakepedaltravelandfeel.Ifpedaltravelisexcessiveorifthepedalfeelsexcessivelyspongy,some
airmaystillbetrappedinthesystem.RebleedthebrakesasnecessaryincludingtheIPBCaliperBrake
BleedingProcedureontherearcalipersaslistedbelow.
9. Testdrivethevehicletoverifythebrakesareoperatingproperlyandpedalfeeliscorrect.

Performthefollowingprocedureoneachrearbrakecaliper
asnecessary.
1. Raiseandsupportvehicle.(Referto04Vehicle
QuickReference/HoistingStandardProcedure)
2. Removethewheelmountingnuts(3),thenthetire
andwheelassembly(1).
3. Removethebrakecaliperlowerguidepinbolt(1).
4. Swingthecaliperassemblyupward,pivotingoffthe
upperguidepin,untilclearoftheadapterbracket.
5. Removetheoutboardpad(5)fromtheadapter
bracket.
6. Returnthecaliperbackdownovertheadapterbracket
intomountedpositionandinstallthelowerguidepin
boltfingertight.
7. Slowlypumpthebrakepedaluntilthecaliperfingers
touchtheoutboardsurfaceofthebrakerotor.Release
thepedal.
8. Removethebrakecaliperlowerguidepinbolt.
9. Swingthecaliperassemblyupward,pivotingoffthe
upperguidepin,untilclearoftheadapterbracket.
10. Reinstalltheoutboardpadintheadapterbracket.
11. Openthecaliperbleederscrewatleastonefullturn.

piston.Donotovertightenthescrewdrive.
Damagetothepistoncanoccur.
f. TurnAdapter88072withtheratchet,rotating
thepistoninaclockwisedirectionuntilfully
seated(bottomed)inthebore.Itmaybe
necessarytoturnAssembly,ForcingScrew
88071withAdapter88072tostartthe
processofpistonretraction.
13. Closethebleederscrew.
14. Returnthecaliperbackdownovertheadapterbracketintomountedpositionandinstallthelowerguidepin
boltfingertight.
15. Haveahelperpumpthebrakepedalthreeorfourtimesandholditinthedownposition.
16. Withthepedalinthedownposition,openthebleederscrewatleastonefullturnandletoutfluidandair,if
any.
17. Oncethebrakepedalhasdropped,closethebleederscrew.Oncethebleederscrewisclosed,releasethe
brakepedal.
18. Repeatthepreviousthreestepsuntilalltrappedairisremoved.
19. Tightentheguidepinboltto35Nm(26ft.lbs.).
20. Repeattheaboveprocedureontheoppositerearbrakecaliperasnecessary.
21. Checkbrakepedaltravelandfeel.Ifpedaltravelisstillexcessiveorifthepedalfeelsexcessivelyspongy,
