Cessna Steep Approach Limits

This document outlines limitations for performing steep approaches in a Cessna C525 aircraft. It discusses operational limits including approved glide path angles between 4.5 and 5.5 degrees, airspeed limitations, altitude minimums, autopilot use heights, and runway limitations. Weight and balance limits follow normal aircraft flight manual limits. Certain systems like the antiskid, speed brakes, and ground flaps must be operative. Terrain awareness systems must have the ability to inhibit unwanted warnings during steep approaches. Performance is limited to stabilization on the glidepath by 400 feet altitude and remaining stabilized to 35 feet, with approach speeds no greater than 10 knots above reference speed.

Chapter 1

LIMITATIONS

1.1 Limitations

According to the Cessna C525, Cessna C525A, or Cessna C525B FAA Approved Aeroplane Flight
Manual Chapter II Limitations.

1.2 Limitations for Steep Approach

KINDS OF OPERATIONS:

1. The airplane is approved for steep approaches in visual or instrument meteorological

conditions, with no icing conditions for the approach environment, using an approved visual or
ILS glidepath reference system.
2. Steep Approach Supplement does not constitute operational approval to conduct steep
approach operations.

1.3 WEIGHT AND CENTER OF GRAVITY LIMITATIONS

Normal AFM center of gravity and weight limits apply.

1.4 OPERATIONAL LIMITS

These operational limits apply when performing steep approaches:

1. The wing flaps, antiskid system, speed brakes, and ground flaps must be operative.
2. The range of approved approach glide path angles is from 4.5 up to and including 5.50

3. Airspeed - SVREF
4. Steep approaches commencing with one engine inoperative are prohibited.
5. Steep approaches in icing conditions are prohibited.
6. Maximum airport elevation is 5.000 feet MSL.
7. Minimum demonstrated go-around altitude is 150 feet AGL.
8. Minimum autopilot use height for steep approaches is 360 feet AGL.
9. Runway Limitations must be in accordance with Runway Analysis Landing Data.

Landing gear Extended
Antiskid system Operative
Speed brake Extended

1.5 TAWS

Only TAWS that incorporates an automatic (no pilot action required) or manual switch to inhibit
undesired warnings are approved for use during steep approach operations.

1.6 PERFORMANCE LIMITATIONS

1. Speed at glidepath intercept must be no greater than SVref +10.

2. The airplane must be stabilized on the glidepath, at SVref, by 400 feet AGL and remain stabilized
to 35 feet AGL.
3. The performance data is based on approach glidepath angles from 4.5o up to and including 5.5o.
4. If the visual glidepath reference system is not used, a landing distance adjustment must be
applied as presented in Performance- General, PROCEDURES FOR USE OF STEEP APPROACH
AND LANDINGPERFORMANCE TABLES in AFM Supplement 14.
5. Angle of attack system indicatins for on-speed reference are innacurate in the steep approach
configuration and must not be relied upon for determining or maintaining SV ref.
