Artist Statement

The concept of my artwork is self expression. I convey what I


wish to show and tell people when I do not have to words to express
them myself. I show viewers my thoughts, my feelings, the parts of
my personality that I hide, my dreams and nightmares, memories, and
moments of deep longing. I put a piece of my self into my work.
Most of my artwork is 2-D: drawings, paintings, mixed media,
etc. So I use material such as charcoal, graphite, acrylic or oil paints,
different types of paper (tissue, construction, newspaper, book pages).
There are times where I will do 3-D work, including ceramics and
sculpture, to try or brush up on other methods. The materials I use
and am mostly familiar with for this would be wire, clay, cardboard,
wood, and found items.
My 2-D is either realistic or animated (cartoon/anime-like). My
animated work is usually inspired by anime (shoujo) style: Sailor
Moon or Maid-Sama. One artist I look to on this is Irene Flores who
has made a couple of books on how to draw in a shoujo style. For my
realistic work I look to earlier forms of art such as the Renaissance,
Baroque, and Rococo periods. I find the these styles to be wonderful
to look at and I strive to have my realistic work to be on that level.
There are also times where Im abstract with my 2-D and 3-D. I
do this to make the viewers think about what Im trying to say them;
to show them whats in my head. Doing my work abstract usually
goes into a sort of fearful tranquility. This can be seen in the colors
and I use in various artworks. Overall my work varies. This variation
gives me chances to experiment or stick to what I like.
