Battery Safety

Maintenance
Check battery for damage before and after each match
o Cracked casing
o Leaking electrolyte
Check terminals
o Bent terminals may be leak source

Handling damaged battery


DO NOT USE!
Use emergency handling and first aid procedures
Avoid contact with battery acid, H2SO4

Electrolyte leak
- Neutralize with baking soda on all wetted surfaces
- Use emergyency handiling methods of SDS and notify mentor
- Put on gloves before handling
- Place battery into leak-proof container
- Neutralize acid on gloves before removing
- Seek medical attention if chemicals contacted
- Dispose of battery as hazardous material
At FIRST event
- Seek medical attention at First Aid Station
- Report incidence to Pit Admin and fill out Medical Incident Report Form
- Pit Admin will contact Event Management for further instruction

Charging
Keep charging area clean and orderly
Ensure air can freely circulate around charger
Do not allow metal to contact the terminals simultaneously and short out the
battery
Do not charge battery at greater than recommended rate
Unplug battery when charge is full
