Peer Review in Narrative Writing Lesson

This lesson plan focuses on having students provide peer feedback on personal narratives to help each other improve their writing. Lesson Objectives (SWBATs):
Students will be able to discuss ways to improve pieces of writing based on thoughtful
readings of peer texts.

Students will be able to write and improve their persona narratives based on peer feedback.

Computer, question packets, projector, board, student essays

Students have had the option to type or handwrite their first drafts; students will be able to
discuss the texts at a level fitting for themselves and their partners.

Lesson Plan Narrative


(Describe the progression of activities during the lesson)
Students will be handed the peer review questions and instructed to read through them. I will
then project the first draft of my own personal narrative, previously read aloud to the class,
on the screen. We will talk about the essay in terms of different questions from the sheet to
develop familiarity with the review process theyre being asked to do with a partner. We will
also discuss how we may receive feedback thoughtfully but not always change our writing in
the exact way suggested.
Students will then work in partners of their choosing to read each others essays and respond
both on the essay and by recording their answers to the questions they received. I will
circulate the class during this time to observe and encourage student responses.
