This document describes a general-purpose solver that determines if a manufacturing process is producing products within specified tolerances. The user enters the nominal value, upper and lower tolerance limits, and optionally a critical value. They can then input recent measurements to calculate average and standard deviation or manually enter those values. The results sheet will then display the process capability ratio and index.

Solver - Process Capability


This general-purpose solver lets you determine whether a process is producing goods or services within spe-
cified tolerances.

Provide the specified value and upper and lower tolerances, plus a critical value if desired. You then have the
option of entering some recent measurements (as many as 25 observations) and letting the solver find the
average and standard deviation, or entering average and standard deviation manually. After completing the in-
puts, view the Results sheet to see the Process Capability Ratio and Process Capability Index.
