Block Flow Diagram - Processdesign

A block flow diagram (BFD) is a simplified drawing used to represent chemical processes. It breaks complex systems into basic stages using blocks to represent equipment or entire plants. BFDs are useful for comparing process alternatives early on and providing an overall process understanding. They range from simple input/output diagrams to more detailed diagrams of a plant section. Conventions include using blocks for units, arrows for material flows, and providing mass balances. Examples demonstrate BFDs for benzene production and acrylic acid oxidation.
