Grammar & Creative Writing
(S9GCW)
Grades: 7 & up
12:30-2:10
Cost: $200 ($175 Member-Plus)
This class will be composed of two 45 minutes sections with a short 5-10 minute break in between. There will be
homework in both parts. The first section will cover grammar, usage and mechanics. The second 45 minutes will be
devoted to the craft of creative writing. I will be using Writing for 100 Days, by Gabriel Arquilevich, M.F.A. and other
sources, like Writing down the Days, by Lorraine Dahlstom to design a course that includes daily journal writing as
well as planning, and finishing a short story. I will include all usual literary terms that relate to writing, and students
will know how to use these terms with their own and the other student’s stories. We will be sharing our stories,
having peer review and rewriting stories after editing. Students can expect to spend about 2 hours or more each week
on homework. During the Monday holidays, when we don't meet, I will assign homework for the rest of the week so
students don't get out of the writing habit, or lose momentum. This class will be held in the Community Room at the
Prunedale Library. Taught by Lynnette Witwer.
