today.
Presents the video about affixes.
D. Discussion
Teachers Approach Students Approach
I think you can tell me what our lesson for
today is?
(The video is about prefixes and suffixes.)
Affixes are letters that attached at the end or at
the beginning of the word. It is divided in to
two categories: prefix and suffix.
(Prefixes and Suffixes)
What is a prefix?
(a word part attached to the beginning of a
Prefix is a group of letters that come before a word)
root or base word. Prefix is a special group of
letters because it can change the meaning of
the root word and make an entirely new word.
A prefix is a group of letters and not a word
that can stand on its own.
(raise their hands for answers)
Can you give me some examples you know?
pre-, un-, semi-, re-, mis-, etc
Lets see this one, wrap
The word wrap by itself means to be covered
completely by something. Let us put the prefix
un. Un is an example of prefix. By adding
un to the beginning of this word, we can
change its meaning. Un means not or
opposite of. Whenever we see the letters
un at the beginning of the word, we know it
means not or the opposite of the root word.
Unwrap meaning remove the covering.

What about suffix?
A suffix is a letter or group of letters added at (a word part attached to the end of a word)
the end of a word to form another word or new
meaning.
What are some examples of suffixes?
(-tion, -able, -ly, -ed, -er,-full.)
Okay, let us have the word comfort.
The word comfort by itself means to feel less
worried.
Let us add suffix in this word.
Anyone, who wants to try?
Now in comfortable. What prefix you may Comfort- able
attach?
Un-comfort-able
What is the prefix/root word/suffix of the
word
under- = Too Little
Undercooked
This chicken is undercooked; I dont think its safe
to eat.
(prefix: under-, root word: cook, suffix: ed)
Unwrapped(suffix: un, root word: wrap,
prefix: ed)
Unwrapped meaning remove the covering.
Examples.
Rest + full = restful
Restful + ly = restfully
Beautiful + ly = beautifully

Rule: When full is added
to a word you drop the final -I. If you add -ly to
any word ending with -ful you keep the
existing -l.
