Year 12 VCAL Literacy: The Best Part
of Me
Learning Focus: students will be able to plan, draft and edit a
descriptive poem.
Success Criteria:

Task 1: What is the best part of you?

Now ask the person beside you what they believe is the best part of you and
why?

Take a photo!
Task 2: Planning your descriptive poem

Describe what your best part looks like size, color, shape, texture
II.
Explain what your best part allows you to do that you enjoy
III.
State the words, the best part of me, somewhere in your poem
Task 3: Drafting your poem
Now it is time to write your draft copy. Please make sure you have a minimum of 50
words.
Task 4: Feedback and edit
Once you have completed your draft poem,
give to another person in the class to gain
some peer feedback. Have that person
check you spelling, punctuation and
grammar. They might have some
constructive feedback for you.
Secondly, get your teacher to do the same.
Then you can edit your draft.
Task 5: Final copy
Now that you have passed the drafting and editing stage, handwrite a good copy of
your poem on white paper.
Also, print off your photo in black and white.
Now glue your photo and poem onto an A4 piece of paper and submit to your
teacher. These will then be displayed in the classroom.
Lastly, assess yourself against the rubric below.
