Demand-Controlled Ventilation Guide

Demand control ventilation (DCV) is a system that automatically reduces outdoor air intake when occupancy is lower than the design level to save energy. DCV works well in spaces like classrooms that have varying occupancy. It is most effective at reducing fan energy use in moderate or cold climates by meeting indoor air quality needs while lowering ventilation rates. Modeling DCV in DesignBuilder involves enabling it on the air handling unit, selecting an outdoor air control method, setting up CO2 sensors and zones, and checking that ventilation rates and CO2 levels adjust appropriately based on occupancy.
